Lalita Sahasranam Formula
When I met Amma in September 1996 I did not have any income for two years! I never told Amma about my problem, just came to receive Her blessings. And my problem of income was solved as I chanted Lalita daily.
Somewhere in 2003 I wrote in an article published in Matruvani about Amma’s formula of daily chanting Sri Lalita Sahasranama (1000 names of Devi) with devotion and faith. Amma’s famous quotation on this is printed on the back cover of Lalita Sahasranama book. “Whoever chants Lalita Sahasranama daily with faith and devotion, Devi takes care of all his/her material needs. At the same there will also be spiritual progress.”
Last January one gentleman aged 51 came to Amritapuri from Mumbai. He was GM (Sales) of a pharma company, but suddenly he lost his job about a month ago. All his attempts of getting another job failed. His wife is a great devotee of Amma. She told him to meet Amma. So he came to meet. He happened to read the article in Matruvani. I gave him a lot of encouragement and explained that it was not necessary to tell Amma about the job problem. Just keep chanting Lalita daily. He started chanting 11 days before arriving in Amritapuri. He had very good darshan of Amma for two days and Amma asked him to sit near him for some time. Then he also took mantra from Amma.
After few days, one evening I got a call from him with the good news that his old company where worked for 28 yrs had called him that very day and offered him the job of GM(Sales)! Before coming to Amritapuri he contacted this company but they did not show much interest. After he received Amma’s blessings and having started chanting Lalita daily he got a job within less than 2 months!

With grace of my AMMA, I started chanting Lalita Shashranam daily with faith and devotion from October 2007 onwards and before that time I was in midst of difficulties and difficulties of every type. Today I am a changed person. She is always present to rescue me in my difficult times, she doesnt even allow the difficulty to have a grip on me.
YES IT IS TRUE YOU HAVE PEACE WEALTH AND HEALTH AND SPIRITUAL PROGRESS WHEN YOU CHANT THE 1000 NAMES OF DEVI.
According to our family traditions, I should chant Vishnu Sahasranamam, But ever since I met Amma, I chant Lalita Sahasranamam. No comparisons, but Lalita Sahasranamam has has given me a great sense of peace. I have always felt that Amma knows I am chanting the Sahasranamam so have felt a great sense of devotion while chanting too
I have had many experiences by chanting Lalitha Sahasranama, by Ammachi’s grace. It has a unique power because of Amma’s grace. By chanting it, I have got very good jobs, my financial problems got resolved to a great extent, my sister’s wedding and my wedding took place without hiccups. Amma has given me everything I wanted.
i grew up with lalita sahasranamam from childhood…i hadnt seen Amma then….6 years of chanting,and the seventh year Devi decided i should see Her!!!from then on,the Devi in my heart is clad in white..

I was chanting Lalita Sahasranamam daily, but my mother told that there are some rules for chanting Sahasranamam. If mistakes happen it is bad. So I stopped. If anybody know the rules please write about it.

The most important is not to chant a particular archana or mantra or prayer… The important factor is to do it with sincerety and a pure heart.
I got the opportunity to learn Lalitha Sahasranamam in a musical form from an classical music teacher many years ago. I was always drawn to this musical form of chanting LS. However after meeting Amma, my desire to learn this by-heart grew and slowly I was able to learn the musical version by-heart which I sing everyday. Initially older devotees scared me on the restrictions needed to chant this stotram. Once I was plagued by insecurities whether what I was singing was fine by Amma and I cannot forget the tremendous surge of confidence that came over me right at that moment. I understood this as a signal that Amma doesn’t mind and is happy to see I am putting effort.
So in answer to one question above on the rules to chanting, my personal experience is God appreciates any sincere effort put and when we chant with love to the Guru/Amma, the right rules will be added gradually without our minds revolting!

As i understand, there are not many rules for chanting the Lalitha sahasranama…AMMA herself recommends it for everybody… The most important rule is to do it with love and faith. But then again, that’s true for everything in the world…If you are not sure about the enunciations of the mantras, there are CDs at AMMA’s ashram that help with the chanting…The 1000 names of the divine mother are the most potent of all the sahasranamas and are regarded as infallible…It is primordial sound and vibrational energy itself – Parashakti herself – and the chanters and listeners are lovingly enveloped in its’ divine power, much like a Mother hugs her child…
Thank you aruna..Mostly i was chanting sahasranamam with love and faith.But everytime i couldn’t concentrate on it while chanting as my nature.I think because of that only there was not much progress in my spiritual life.Anyway i will surely try to chant with concentration.
100% true. I am chanting Lalita Sahasranamam daily. If we chant Lalita Sahasranama daily with faith and devotion, Amma/ Devi takes care of all our needs. At the same time, there will also be spiritual progress. I think because of that only there was lot of peace of mind and happiness in my spiritual life.
I also have something to share. In my 12th standard I lost my GOLD chain. I was so afraid to tell my parents. I searched everywhere but couldn’t find it. Then I thought that searching won’t help too much only prayer is the solution. And I thought that only Amma can help me. That time I used to chant only 10 to 50 mantras of the Lalita sahasranam. I decided that before going to sleep I will completely chant 1000 names. After my chanting I slept. All of my friends were angry with me, because they were searching for my chain but I was sleeping. One of my friend told to me, don’t do foolish thing. That night I had the dream that one of my elder sisters got my chain from our dressing room. Next day I saw my sister and asked her: where is my chain? She said: “I got your chain from the same place you told to me “. Amma’s magic?
AMMA has cleared so many doubts about chanting Lalitha Sahasara Namam. We as a family have been chanting it together and found so much peace and harmony. Doing it without expecting results would be much better. One of AMMAS Brahmacharis in a satsang has said that chanting the Lalitha Sahasaranamam mantras is by itself a form of Pranayam breathing.
Namashivaya Preeja, I really loved your experience too ..actually my helper at home who is an Indonesian had a similar experience. She lost her little ear-stud. that was the only one she had and we searched all over the house for it but cud not find it. then 1 morning when i woke up i saw her red-nosed from crying and wearing the ear-studs. I asked where she found it and she said Ma’am would u believe me if i told u something? i said yes tell me and she said Amma had come to her dream hugged her and said where are ur earrings. she said Amma i have lost it and Amma told her go to the kitchen balcony and search behind the door. she said it was so real that she jumped out of her sleep and ran to the kitchen balcony and exactly as Amma had told her in her dream, she found the earstud behind the door!!
Yes!!! it is Amma magic that is Her Pure Love for Her children irrespective of caste creed or religion!!!
Namashivaya Anjali ..i dont think there are any rules for a child who glorifies Her mother with love. I’ve heard Swamiji say that if the Lalitha Sahasranamam is being chanted with some selfish intent or to achieve something then yes we need to be very careful with the mantras but if we chant it everyday for the love of our Mother She can never be angry with us if we make pronounication mistakes. A Mother only loves Her child’s innocent prayer. Amma is the most Loving, most Compassionate Mother, Amma can never be angry with us for making mistakes in our chanting if we are sincerely trying to say it just for Amma’s love and presence in our life – i am very very sure of that. Jai Jai Ma!
Is it to read only sahasranama or lalitha sahasranama shoshtra . which is better.

If time permits u can read both Lalithasaharanamavali and shostram too. It takes hardly one hour, maximum one and half it depends how your pronounciation and speed. Trust me Padmini after some days u’ll feel lots of changes within. This is the experience i had.

Could someone please provide me with more guidance on the much talked about lalita sahasranamam…I am not a follower of Amma as I have never been introduced to the faith. Can anyone read the strotas or you have to be a follower of Amma first to start chanting the strotas? Also, where can I get this book from? I was also reading about some restrictions, can anyone please let me know how to go about this? I will be very grateful. God bless!
To chant Lalitasahasranama one does not have to be a follower of Amma. People from all faith come to Amma and most devotees chant Lalita Sahasranama daily.
The Lalita chant book is available at all branches and Amritapuri HQ of Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
If you find chanting difficult on your own, MAM also has a chanting CD which is very helpful initially. Once you get the rythm, you would not need that support any more.
Lalita can be chanted anywhere – at home, in flight, in train, in car, anywhere. Best time to chant is early morning but depending on one’s daily routine, one can fix a convenient time. It is always beneficial to chant at a fixed time everyday. Chanting with faith and love is a must to get benefits.
Thank you so much Bimal for clarifying my doubts. I just feel inspired to tell you that I bought the CD of Lalita sahasranamam and have been using it to practice chanting. I have also been doing extensive research on the net to get around as much information as I can. And today, I could also go through the meanings of 1000 names. Its feels nice doing the prayer daily. Chanting the Lalita Sahasranamam has also helped me a lot. After 8 yrs, we were blessed with a healthy baby boy, i kept chanting with as some ghee offering as recommended.and later on has also helped with job situation. Because of work and family, could only chant partly on the weekdays and all the 1000 names once during the weekend. Also been chanting the 108 names of Devi(shortened version), has given peace of mind and hope to keep progressing spiritually by God/Amma’s grace
Is goddess lalita same form of goddess Parvati? and if goddess lalita created parvati and lord shiva , lord Vishnu and Lakshmi all . What about the Parvati who was doing penance after manmadha become ash?
Then how lord shiva married her to have son to kill Taraka And Who is Lord Kameswara ? is he Lord shiva or other ?
