At first I was a bit irritated at the commotion but then I thought to myself, “I maybe manage to look fairly dignified, but have I controlled my mind or is it still like a restless child? Is my mind under my command and can I lay it down at will?”
Once years ago I expressed my dismay to Amma that having tried so many years to control the mind, it still behaves often as it likes. Amma said that a spiritual aspirant should never become despondent and that if one kept on trying the day would come when God would hand over the remote control to the mind. And once that remote control is in the palm of one’s hand, the mind is brought totally under control. Only thing is to NEVER give up the quest. A child falls, and picks it self up and continues until it has fully mastered the art of walking upright. It is the nature of the child itself that compels it to keep on trying. It doesn’t even occur to it not to. Same should be true for a spiritual aspirant.
