Turns Red in Malayalam
29 Oct 2007, Amritapuri
Well, that’s the consensus of a few of the Brahmacharis. To me, it looks a bit pinkish rose red – definitely more red. The sleeves are creme/white. The red part has lots of gold designs. Earlier, when Amma came out for Ambike Devi, one or two Brs. took a guess and said ‘blue’ and ‘violet’, but they were wrong….
Before Amma came out for Darshan, we were able to talk with Her. There was no video. During these chats, a microphone is passed around so that anyone who wants to talk directly to Amma can do so. Eariler today, I had decided that I would take this chance to ask Amma what color She planned to wear – in the hopes that I could clarify any doubt as to the shade, and of course just so I could talk to Her. I asked a Br. to write out the correct transliteration of the Malayalam, and alerted the Br. with the microphone that I would like to have a chance to speak. So when Amma came on line, after a few others had a chance, I took the mic and spoke out a bit nervously, “Amma, Innu ratri ethu nirathilulla sariyanu dharikkan pokunnathu?’ in faltering Malayalam, partly not believing that I was really talking to Amma and that She would certainly hear my voice. Almost immediately, Amma said something back – in Malayalam – and all the Brs. turned to me and said ‘Sri Pati!’ I just looked around like ‘huh?’ and they all said ‘Sri Pati! again. Turns out they were prompting me to say my name – Amma was asking who was speaking! My heart skipped a beat, and I said ‘Sri Pati’ into the mic, but by then, the other groups on line had started vying for Amma’s attention and were talking as well.
Oh well. There’s always the next city. By then, my Malayalam will be much better, and I’ll be sure to identify myself! Toulon is next.

A question to Sri Pati: “And… did you turn red when Amma was asking for your name?!”
It was so interesting
At Vallikkavu for Several Devi Bhava Darsan we were guessing which colour saree AMMA will wear. Some times our guess came correct or near to that. No matter what colour AMMA wear in each Devi Bhava AMMA looks more beautifull in each one of them no matter it is Black ( very rarely AMMA used to wear) Red, Pink, Yellow, Blue, White, Maroon, Orange,Green, Cream, Multicolour cheque. Sri Pati along with all ashramites are very lucky to see and even talk directly with AMMA (physicall) in the other part of the globe through webcam.
That is so cute!! I really want to learn Malayalam so badly! Are you sure what you said meant ‘What color?’
Earlier I used to find great pleasure guessing what colour Amma’s sari would be and if it turned out accurate guess how high my ego went with it :-). Now I try to tell my mind that I will feel very happy if She wears any colour and try not to will any colour that I want. The results have been amazing. I have been amazed at the electrifying colours She wears each time!!
Hahaaaa…We are guessing the color of AMMA’s saris! I am also ‘guilty’ of that guessing game. Around AMMA we are transformed into 2 year olds and 3-year olds!!! Everything around AMMA is a feast for the senses -AMMA’s form and color of the saree, the sounds of bhajans and even her chastisements as she speaks to us, the candy prasad and the ashram food and snacks, the fragrance of the garlands and AMMA herself, AMMA’s kiss and touch as she embraces us – all of them bring with it a lot of emotions and make us scramble towards her like children vying for the mother’s attention. Can be a bit intense when the entire universe is scrambling for Her attention!
