Innocent Devotion

25 Dec 2007, Amritapuri
Last night during bhajans my attention was drawn to one little girl that was fully absorbed within while singing and at one point tears started flowing from her eyes during one of the songs.  I’ve often been amazed seeing very young children crying devotionally during bhajans, both boys and girls. And I must say that it is very evident when a child cries because of devotion rather than something else. For one thing they remain with eyes closed and focused within, not asking for attention or help from and adult like in other instances. But I have to say I have so far seen this only in India, maybe because I’ve lived here the major part of my adult life. Can someone tell me if this happens elsewhere also? Do children suddenly burst into tears during a church service, not out of frustration but of yearning for the Lord?
The bhajans were:

Mithi Madhuri (Guj)
Nilambuja Nayane
Padamulattile Pamsuvay
Lila Adbhuta  Divya Charita(Mar)
Chintakalkantyam
Enaikakka Unaiyantri (Tam)
Om Namah Shivaya
Jai Ma Ambe (Hin)
Vishwanath

  1. Yes it is true. Whenever I read the literature of AMMa or see her photographs or sing her Aarti or bhajans, I burst into tears with a desire of meeting her physically. I yearn for her, her tight hug. I have felt it many a times she is hugging me, whereas I have never met AMMA in person.

  2. When Ammachi sings one can feel the atmosphere vibrate with devotion… Many times i have felt that when ammachi sings, Devi in the Divine form is with me… i hardly can feel the tears running down my cheeks… the best thing that i like about being in the ashram is that i can listen to Amma sing…
