Devi in Dallas

Day before yesterday we were watching the webcast from Dallas, Texas and I couldn’t but wonder at Amma’s leela. There Amma was giving Devi Bhava in Dallas like it was a completely normal thing to do. What I mean to say is how incredible it is in a way that Amma is going to all these places to shower her love and enact the sacred ritual of the Devi Bhava. A place like Texas is culturally so far removed from where Amma was born in Kerala that one might think a connection cannot be made. But with Amma it can! In a “normal” world nobody in Dallas would ever have heard of Amma or had much contact with Indian spirituality, but Amma’s world is not “normal”, her consciousness and compassion truly span the whole universe. She lives in the Divine World, whereas we have strayed into our dark dream worlds and mental constructions through which we can hardly see anymore. But Amma gives us glimpses and keeps urging us to break through the clouds that are darkening our vision and see Reality once again. In the world out there nothing is needed more than that.

At the end of the Devi Bhava Amma joked again with all of us and was giving Prasad to everyone through the webcam. At the end she kept saying “Makkale” to which everyone naturally replied “Amme” in chorus. As simple as that may sound it is a very endearing thing when Amma does that.
