Eve of Departure

Today Amma came out during the day to give last instructions to all the brahmacharis and brahmacarinis for the time when she will be gone on the tour. The mission is so big these days that nobody will have time to sit idle, there’s so much to do.

Amma will be leaving sometime in the night or early morning hours. Destination: Japan.

The bhajans tonight were really blissful but tinged with a touch of sadness at the prospect of separation. We are all used to it by now I guess but still the attachment to Amma’s form makes it a little sad every time she leaves for a longer period. But in one way it is healthy to be separated from her every now and then, just so we don’t start taking her presence for granted. That she is with us so much is a blessing without measure and must be utilized in the best possible way.

Amma sang some powerful songs tonight. I was praying that Devi Saranam would keep going for a few hours at least. Amma was pouring so much love into the songs tonight that it felt like a stream of shakti was emanating from her in every direction.

The songs were as follows:

  • Vraj Me Aisa (Hindi)
  • Alamba Hinam
  • Kannunir Kondu
  • Mithi Madhuri (Gujarati)
  • Anantamayi Patarunnorakasame
  • Om Namah Shivaya
  • Devi Saranam Saranam Amme
  • Chintanai Ceytituvay (Tamil)
  • Jai Jai Kali Ma

I always liked the song Anantamayi Patarunnoraakasame. The lyrics some it all up beautifully:

The sky which is vastly expanding, vibrant with enthusiasm, the inner being, awakens.

O Mother, Goddess Ambika, Eternal Virgin, the Everlasting, the Blissful, the Immaculate!

Never, Oh…never again allow this child to succumb to temptation.

The pains of my heart are growing with the passing days, aren’t Thou aware of it, O Goddess of my heart?

Don’t I have a Mother? Is there no Mother for me? Tell me O Blissful One, Tell me. I Seek neither bliss nor anything else, give me only pure love and devotion.
