Tonight’s bhajans were the last before Amma departs for Her South-Indian tour tomorrow. Amma was practicing and recording some Tamil songs in Her room today for the delight of Her Devotees in Tamil Nadu. She really feels strongly that people should hear devotional Songs in their mother tongue. It has a very profound effect when the language goes deep into the psyche and the message gets engrained in the heart. Personally however I enjoy most listening to Amma sing in Her native Malayalam, which is such a beautiful language. Especially Her old songs are simply the best thing one can hear in one’s life. Tonight Amma did a few of them like Uttama Premattin and Etrayo Nalayi. I love Etrayo Nalayi. The longing for union with the Lord is so beautifully expressed in the raga and the lyrics
I have been waiting for so many days my Lord.
Will my life pass in vain?
My heart’s humble cottage door stands open wide,
And down the path of hope I gaze with longing day and night.
Will Thou feel it presumptuous, O Lord, on my part to desire Thee
To rest in my humble heart?
Lord, even if Thou come just for a moment, my life will become blessed.
