Sometimes, it is really amazing on how Amma can transform people half-way across the globe.

Last summer, as part of a delegation of scientists from India, i visited Brazil for an international conference and witnessed the power of Amma’s transformation beyond geographical and language barriers.

It was the evening before the conference, and we the delegates went for dinner. As we were all extremely hungry after long travel, we ordered a full plate each, but after 2 full hours of eating, could only consume about a quarter of the food in our plate, leaving the rest behind, fairly intact and quite clean. At that time, our Brazilian host asked us: can i get all your left overs packed. We found the request quite unusual, and we quickly responded that we are all quite full and we don’t need to take the food back to our hotel rooms. Our host rushed to clarify that she will take the packed left-overs. We were a bit puzzled at this unusual request, but since we were not that familiar with local customs, we silently nodded our heads in agreement.

As we all walked back to our hotel rooms at close to midnight, we witnessed a great miracle – our brazilian host hands over each of those packed food boxes to about six homeless people sleeping along the roadsides, bringing smiles to each of their starved faces.

As soon as we reached the hotel, she revealed to us that she had a chance to receive Amma’s Darshan for the first time last year, and she learnt from Amma that we should never waste food when there is so much poverty and hunger in the world. Amma’s transforming embrace is truly global – beyond any of our imaginations. In fact, if we cooperate, Amma transforms us from ordinary to extra-ordinary – in all we do. And that transformation can happen in that instant when Amma embraces us.

  1. Wasting food is morally wrong considering half the world is starving. My family are reducing the quantity of food prepared/eaten so this does not occur. Minimal waste can be composted with other food scraps benefitting Nature.

  2. It is touching. I have learnt a lesson actually today not to waste food. I bow at the lotus feet of my beloved AMMA.

  3. A great blessing to keep AMMA’s words in action …

  4. Really a touching one…..actually we all don’t know the value of food.Thousands are starving somewhere when we are wasting the food here.So that host has done a great work…May AMMA shower all Her blessings on her.Namah Shivaya.

  5. Truly great !

  6. Very inspiring story. Mother Teresa used to ask people in the airplanes she travelled by to give her their food and she would take the whole bag to the poor people. There are so many places where food is wasted everyday. Hotels, restaurants, student hostel messes – if we could each pick up enough for six hungry persons… 2. Amma, please overcome the barriers I provide and transform me f-a-a-a-st!

  8. Thanks Venkat ji for posting this . It is really a great lesson for me and all of us here taught by our very Dear Amma . Truly we see in our daily lives so many people are starving. And many people just manage to get a single meal for them and their family by so much hard work and many even do not get that . So , it becomes our utmost duty to share whatever we have with them and atleast refrain from wasting food . After reading this I will surely and try my best never to waste food and share it with needy people by Amma’s blessings . And I would say Amma has taught me a very big lesson in my life .
