It’s that time of year again.  the time when new bhajans flow forth. Lyrics are penned and new melodies are composed for the upcoming tours.  For many, they will become the defining sounds of 2008.

The two evenings before the South Indian Tour, after dinner, Amma headed to the stage in the main hall to practice and record the new bhajans. Over a dozen are there. Only the musicians and composers were permitted inside on the stage.  The first night, Amma stayed past 3am.  A few people sat outside, their ears pressed against the door hoping to hear a few notes, a few beats, a few lines.  What would be the new ‘hit’ of 2008?  What new bhajans would stir the souls of every devotee around the world?

A few have come to life here in Coimbatore.  The first batch of new Tamil bhajans.  Four so far… Their melodies still fresh, their names unknown. One in particular stands out…At the end, it repeats ‘Mother you are, Father you are, Goddess you are who supports/protects us all’….faster, faster, uplifting the soul….
