gods birthday
27 feb, bharatayatra 2008, pune
pune was dusty. it was very cold at night. at about 2 am. the temp suddenly dropped below 14 degrees. the small wind that blew across the ground made it worse. still people withstood the climate for darshan. the warmth of amma’s love was covering them.
after sunrise, when the darshan was coming to a close, the devotees of pune came with a cake saying happy birthday. but whose birthday? they said it was amma’s birthday. about 10 or so children wearing happy birthday conical paper hats and streamers in hand were standing behind amma. when an old devotee came and put the hat on amma, all sang happy birthday to amma. they asked amma to cut the cake. there was a big celebration.
was amma’s birthday on 27th feb? may be. or sep 27th? may be. or any other date? who knows god’s birthday?
the day you meet god is the birthday of your god. it’s your birthday too.

Everyday is an opportunity for me to join God fully. Thus, everyday is my birthday. For, one day, with the Grace from the Guru; She told me, there will be no more.

When I was a child and would travel with my mother she would tell every stranger she met that it was her birthday. I would say “But mommy it’s not your birthday”. However, I think the joy in the faces of the people she told was her motivation. She felt wonderful (as she was always beaming when she annouced it) and they felt happy as well…even though it was not her birthday. If there is one cell in the body that dies every day and another cell that is renewed (as well as other micro organisims in the body) then there is always brith and death happening within us…so we can all say we have a ‘birth’ every day!
For many years, I believed that my birhtday was on June 30 and one day I discovered that it was an error. The real birthday, as recorded in my father’s diary, was on June 9! For many years, I was under the tutelage of a Guru who celebrated his birthday on June 30 and then one day I moved on…To Amma. On March 3, Amma gave me another life through the experience of doing pada puja. Her divine love and grace delivered a new blissful creature. I might err again but my birthdays are safe with Amma.
On AMMAs Birthday, a devotee brought a flower bouque and a garland to AMMAs room. AMMA said that it was a waist of money, this money he could have given to a poor starving family. The devotee told AMMA that it was AMMAs Birthday. Amma said that for her, there is no Birthday or such. All the days are the same. This child of AMMA got two births infact, first to this earth and second is at the first Darsan of AMMA
