15 march , delhi to calcutta, bharata yatra 2008.
today is a loooong trip — by the road to calcutta, it is abut 1500 km. from the north to east of india cutting through the states of haryana, uttarpradesh, bihar and then to west bengal.
when passing through the state of uttarpradesh, we saw yamuna river where sri krishna used to dance with the gopis on its banks. then we passed through mathura, where sri krishna was born, vrindavan where he did the rasalila, govardhan where he lifted the mountain, …..wow. when you see the sign boards by the high way, the heart floods with love for sri krishna, the stories, the memories, the imagination… they become so alive.
seeing ladies on the street wearing the sari over their heads calls to mind the gopis. to me they all looked like radha, the beloved of krishna.
all these brings the image of krishna’s life in front of you. its amazing that some one who lived over 5000 years ago can stil inspire you with his life. his teachings are so powerful and are applicable even in today’s day-to-day life. they are discussed and debated upon so many platforms. do you know that bhagavad gita has had a vastly greater number of different commentaries and interpretations than any other scriptural text from any tradition?
sri rama was also born in this state, in ayodhya.
these two personalities have influenced the philosophy, culture, literature and life of indians and the world at large.
my krishna and rama – i.e amma is there in the car in front of me. as i told you its a long drive. tonight we will be staying at varanasi, the sacred city dedicated to viswanath, lord siva, by the sacred river ganga.
hara hara maha deva.
