Eagle Play

Tonight before the bhajans the eagle was flying around on the stage and causing everyone to dive for cover. Her behavior doesn’t actually seem aggressive but, maybe somehow playful in a bit crude sort of way. I admit it can be a bit intimidating when you see her dive at you with full force, claws outstretched. After flying around trying to claw at everyone’s hair she finally settled on the Amma’s microphone and sat there for a while staring at me deeply in the eyes. I was trying to fathom what she wanted or what her intent was, but could not really tell for sure. All I could do was admire her intense and beautiful eyes.

Amma walked to the stage hand in hand with one elderly ashram resident who is fairly senile and behaves like a child around Amma.  She sits every for Amma’s bhajans on the stage. It is always nice to watch her and Amma interact.

Amma sang the following bhajans tonight:

  • Ambati Kanna
  • Arundu Cholluvan
  • Oru Kochu Pulnambin
  • Manase Nin Svantamayi
  • Dip Kan Na Janu
  • Aldbhuta Charitre
  • Om Namah Shivaya
  • Chintanai Ceytituvay
  • Mat Bhavani Mahesi Ambe

Yesterday evening due to certain circumstances I didn’t find the time to write about the bhajans, but one really stood out. Amma sang a version of Sri Lalitambike which lasted for half an hour. She came for bhajans already at 6.30 pm, so there was plenty of time. It was a really amazing half an hour with Amma in a very deep state calling for Devi with a power that pulled everyone in and created a very special atmosphere in the whole hall.

In the night Amma came to the stage to record mostly Tamil Bhajans for the tour. Those moments at night remind me of days in the ashram a long time ago when not so many people were around.

  1. Namah Shivaya Vishwanath for your regular posts! What a blessing to be close enough to an eagle to see its eyes. It is not easy to get that close to an eagle in the US. I think I may have only seen one flying from 30 feet away (the closest). They were once on the endangered species list here. Not sure if they still are, but I don’t think they are normally at zoos here. The only chance would perhaps be at an eagle conservatory or reserve or when we travel to the ashram! It would be interesting to look into an eagle’s eyes for sure. Om Amriteshwaryai Namaha.

  2. As always, many many thanks for sharing !!!
