Q123: Closest animal?
Question 123:
“What is the animal that you naturally feel the closest to? What do you think are the reasons for this affinity?”
Please make your answer clear and brief (maximum 5 or 6 lines).
it’s tough to select the closest one… but sure i have a list: calf (of cow), elephant, squirrel, eagle, snakes, butterflies…
from this list it is tough to say which i’m closest to.
I feel closest to dog and cow…dog for its faithfulness to its master and the cow for its selfless nature…of course the cow is considered holy.
The dogged pleasures that the mind seeks within and also the dogs nearby that match the mind’s nature.
There can’t be affinity as long as mind evolves into higher nature. Only someone spiritual can have affectionate relation or affinity towards animals. All other forms of love are only superficial and can be dangerous also.
I love watching the squirrels in my yard running around, chasing, playing, and how they eat the food standing on their hind legs. In Ramayana the squirrels displayed their immense love, devotion and service to Lord Rama by helping build the bridge to rescue Sita. I often think how tiny they are but they made themselves valuable by serving their Lord. Reminds me of Amma’s message of love, devotion, & selfless service and they inspire to serve our SatGuru Amma.
Dogs and cats, because I have always had one in the house growing up. I also like apes, and because of how closely related they are to us, I think we would be able to relate well.
I love calves. They are so white, signifying purity. Also they look so innocent and helpless. I naturally feel like protecting them. I love to see a calf when it nimbles, and tries to run around. I love calves a lot.
I really like Dogs..they love you no matter what and always there to protect you like a close friend. I think dog is the only animal with very high intelligence and the best friend to humans.
I never felt the animal or birds closest to me, but I love them all. Amma Sharanam.
Dolphins! Dolphins, dolphins… They are intelligent, free, joyful, playful and seem to have some of human being’s social affectivity…
Right now, I feel very close to the wild birds. They bring in each new day with a symphony of bird song and provide us all day with the sound of music. Where ever I go, city or country, there are birds around to remind and comfort me as to who we are. Vibrant, intelligent, beautiful. Look closer and see how interesting and amazing …
It’s always been the lionness I have felt an affinity with. For one, she is the better half of the king of the jungle, who is my favourite animal. The lionness is reknown for her ferociousness, her protective instinct where her cubs are concerned, and her royal gait. Her “dont mess with me” attitude is daunting, predators dare not venture near her, or her cubs.
I like elelphants, calves, Lions and snakes. But it does’t means they are closest to me. The closest one is the elephant, particularly Ram in Amritapuri. What an amazing, aristrocratic and prestigious look is there when Goddess Durga is riding on a lion! And how much holiness and auspeciousness is there in a snake when it decorates the holy neck of Lord Shiva! And everybody remembers the childhood sports of Lord Krishna when we see a calf.
i respect snakes!! One thing, i’m scared of them… but then they r one species, perhaps the only one, that i worship..snakes remind me of the myths and tales i listened to in my childhood… it is a strange fantasy intermingled with fear… i mostly wake up from scary snake dreams and that’s one way to remember that i’ve to chant my mantra before i sleep… 😀
The black panther. It is wild, smooth, elegant, fast, mysterious, hunts, moves fearless through the jungle and is a loner. The reason for my affinity might be that i come from southamerica and have an elegant hunting instinct! I hunt hearts for the Godess.
Dog is the only animal with intelligence and the best friend .i Like and love dog for its faithfulness to its master.
I feel closest to Peacock. whenever I see a Peacock it reminds me of my AMMA and I wish to become like a Peacock who is always happy/

i feel close to most of the animals…squirrel, goat, cow, cat, dog, elephant, etc…i want to be like the squirrel who helped Lord Rama to build the bridge…just like that i want to do my offerings wholeheartedly to Amma though it is small…
At times I feel close to both wolf and dolphin, depending on my mood. I feel like the wolf, where I feel shy. Feared by other animals, but merely just trying to survive while being misunderstood. And when I am comfortable, in atmospheres of love, I feel like a dolphin. Playful and free to have fun.
I have a tremendous affinity with my cats. They are so tuned in and sensitive to my energy. We have a non verbal exchange when we are together, touching, petting and loving on eachother. They are so present in the moment and as I observe them, I become more aware of how easily distracted I am. Maybe that’s why I have three of them, to teach me to be fully present. They don’t appear to worry.
All animals. In childhood cow, cat & dog were closest. A cat slept with me for years & it will take the heat of my body till morning, everyone told, it could harm me but never did. I even milked cow & dog during childhood.
I feel more closest to small puppies. Reason is nothing but love…But like all animals except lion, tiger, snakes..Because I am a bit scared of them. But they are also very lovable… Because Amma in devi avatar sits on them..
