19 Feb, Bengaluru
I want to share a beautiful experience that I had yesterday in Bangalore.
I had taken Amma’s darshan on 17th morning. I refrained from going for a hug on18th, even though I had been issued a darshan token. Instead, I asked permission to sit behind Amma on stage, and to my delight, I was allowed to do so for two whole hours!
I sat behind Amma, watching her tireless hugging, and was thrilled when Swami Amritaswarupananda came on stage to sing bhajans. As he began to sing in his resonant voice, I found myself wishing he would sing the Tamil (my mother tongue) bhajan Ammave paarka pogalaam. I kept glancing in his direction, and thought: “Swamiji, can you please sing that bhajan?” Swamiji sang many bhajans, all lovely ones, but my ‘request’ was not answered.
The urge was so strong, I almost felt like rising from my seat, going up to him and asking him to sing it. I chided myself, telling my mind: “Where do you think you are? At a radio or TV show? This is an ashram, there is no DJ here to answer your request. So shut up and sit quiet.”
But no, my mind just went on pleading, so I looked at (super busy) Amma and thought: Amma, could you please tell Swamiji to sing that bhajan? I love it!
Lo and behold! “Amma-a-a-a-a-!” sang out Swamiji, in the old familiar beginning to my ‘request’ song! Yes, he sang that bhajan within a half hour of my asking Amma to tell him to do so!
And Amma? Why, she was busy hugging people at the rate of one hug every 5 seconds!!!!
