What is Happiness?

What makes me smile?
Is it fame and money in an enormous pile?
Becoming smart, rich and experiencing success?
These must be the providers of my happiness.
Everyone will be my friend and all will respect me
I will rejoice and laugh with all this popularity

But one day after all I want is bought
I lose that smile and all that money runs out
Respect and fame will be temporary
Once jealousy and hatred of others leave me wary
Best of friends will lose their trust
Romance of true loves will turn out to be lust
And all my accomplishments will become a bust

So then what makes my heart sing?
For I am not happy with material things
Loved and adored ones come and go
Thus incapable of filling a space so vastly hollow
Money, fame, family, nor a friend
Can guarantee my smile until this short- life’s end

So am I capable of eternal happiness?
I dry my eyes and confidently say yes!
Because when the money runs out and people go
I still have You Amma, and Your compassion to show
For when I am sad, scared or acting strange
You will comfort me, sinceYour love can never change
And at the end of this life, I strongly believe
You will be there smiling at me, refusing to leave.
