  1. Essentially, spirituality is a quest of the spirit,an intangible entity. Body consciousness and sense perceptions make one feel special owing to various attributes, but a free spirit, devoid of attributes,is humble and contented.Amma is the living example of humility, and that at once makes HER special! If one is humble, one becomes special for others, whereas if one acts special, where,s the humility?

  2. Unassuming Innocence is the greatest weapon against the ego.

  3. Every life is a part of One spirit. This is the essence of spirituality. If our every thought and action is underpinned by this truth we will be humble.

  4. Spirituality means becoming no one, remembering that all r one, self exists everywhere. A yearning of learning more n more and merging with self.

  5. Pride, ego and self righteous behavior rears it’s ugly head even in spiritual people. Spiritual aspirants often times tend to feel ‘special’ or behave like the ‘chosen ones’. But, Amma reminds us that humility is the path, as well as the goal and the mark of true spirituality.

  6. Spirituality is expressing oneself through true nature. There is no thought or even awareness that what is said, or done could/will bring closeness or oneness with God when in this nature. It is a natural flow of caring and loving. There is no sense of feeling special, superior, or more knowing than anyone else. I have suffered, can relate and feel anothers suffering and wish only to help ease their suffering as my own. When any suffering is gone my heart sings with joy.(humble:unpretending character)

  7. Spiritual life begins only when we renounce selfishness or being special and offering the entire life at the Lotus Feet of the Divine i.e., AMMA, implying humility is the mark of spiritual beginning leading to correcting one’s own weaknesses or faults.

  8. Spirituality is all about seeing the Lord in all beings. When we see the Lord in all beings, we will naturally be humble and respectful. On the contrary, if one were to feel that he is Brahman and that he is special then the whole purpose of spirtuality is lost. Spirituality is all about seeing oneness in all.

  9. Instead of having designations like vice-president, vice-chairman of a spiritual organisation, it is better to be humble disciples of a humblest Guru like Amma.

  10. To become special, an individual will have to acquire attributes that would make them standout from the rest. When we become humble the opposite happens i.e. we start to identify ourselves with the rest of the creation which is the ultimate goal of spirituality – to see the oneness in all.

  11. i think (right or wrong) part of being humble is realising God is the main doer. When you think who runs all your body functions (breathing etc) 24 hours (whether you thank it or not), and runs the universe its God. Doing mantra, taking care of my thoughts words deeds to treat things including myself with love and respect is my part. Humble is therefore being aware that God is the main doer in life

  12. Pranams to Amma. Amma is the very embodiment of humility. After giving darshan for so many hours at a stretch, Amma asks us to pray to the Almighty and not Herself who is All in All. Amma doesn’t want to be special. Amma likes to remain humble.
We can learn and apply this example in ours lives too.

  13. “someone Special” = better than others = Ego
“someone Spiritual” = down to earth = Humble

  14. Amma gives an illustration about this saying: If a seed refuses to bow down to the earth and to go under the soil, it will loose its chance to germinate and to grow into a beautiful tree. In comparison, humbleness allows the spiritual dimension in us humans to awaken and blossom. A word has caught my attention too: Mother speaks of becoming humble and not acting humble for acting can be sporadic and calculated, whereas the change needed is on the level of Being more than external behavior.

  15. The socio-economics we are in, can easily make one feel special or inferior, but the Divine creates ample situations for us to become humble and happy, if we are not wise enuf and get carried away with this false coverings..

  16. In humbleness, the oneness is augmented with all our senses (aromas, tastes, colors, touch, melodies), and compassion flows in a journey of service to humanity. That feeling of being more humane is very intense which is not easy to maintain as voluntary & involuntary contractions come into play on an unstable, high frequency surface that increases the action of gravity to find a balance or stillpoint!Om Amiteswaryei Namaha

  17. i think what mother means by is that spirituality happens in reality only through vision of our supreme self in us and not by reading any books on how to become humble

  18. When we think of ourselves as “special” we are building up our small ego whereas if we become humble we can allow the greatness of God to flow through us. The spiritual masters who are great are always humble. The same God lives within everyone so we can’t be special.

  19. Special is dualistic and implies separation. Both ‘i am more’ or ‘i am less’ are expressions of egoic specialness/separation.

Amma & Earth Mother are truly “Humble”. ‘Embracing all, shutting no one out, bearing all, always steady, selfless service without self concern through the sunshine, the storms, the cold, the heat, Amma and Earth Mother are forever withstanding as they accept all and give their best so other can live freely.

In deepest gratitude for Amma and those that humbly serve at Her Holy Feet…

  20. The truly humble recognize that they are one with God.

  21. There’s a saying in tamil – nera kodam thelumbadhu. Spirituality is not about becoming popular, but understanding the purpose of your being sent into this world and seeking a Gurus help to fulfil that purpose. Understanding the purpose of being created, automatically makes us humble.

  22. To be humble is to be connected with our Inner Self. When we reach this state of awareness, all things, every job, every thought becomes a continuous worshipped to the Divine.
I pray Amma to help me to be humble.

  23. For one who has understood spirituality well, for him anything and everything around him is same chaithanya only. Duality doesn’t arise. Also, only those who have gone beyond likes and dislikes, his ego completely can be described as a true spiritual person. He sees everything as God’s work. Naturally a person who follows these things, will be a humble person.

  24. One can be told to be spiritually matured when he/she becomes ego-less,in other words, we realize how little we know or the fact that we are so small in this universe,no matter how rich or how knowledgeable one may become, it is only one can be tiny as a molecule of sand, if we take the universe as a whole. When you attain high level in spirituality you realize this simple truth and becomes humble. Those are the ones who can be called enlightened or a spiritual guru.Nothing is achieved even when you may be one on the top list as the richest man/woman, as per Forbes magazine, because you still die penny-less.Like wise all your knowledge is useless because you still die like any other dog.But those who believes in god knows what his duties are, and how to choose the life righteously and leave behind the body to attain freedom from rebirths.{Moksha]

  25. Being special doesn’t always guarantee happiness and bliss. But, being humble does give you happiness and bliss. As Amma says a cyclone cannot harm a blade of grass but can uproot huge trees. This is the power of humility…. the pathway to peace and bliss.

  26. The difference between people who are too much worldly and real devotees is this. We can find humility, consideration, warmth and gentleness in people who are spiritually oriented. The worldly people want speical mention about them, attention and appreciation. For real devotees there is nothing called special or for them everything is special. There is no distintion between situations.

  27. Being ” Humble ” makes one ” Special “.

  28. i am special in all my forms. in that i am ordinary, as i am all forms.
i am seperate when i am asleep.

  29. Exactly it is. What is spirituality? The exact knowledge of our Pure Self or Bhraman. To become spiritual one should be special and humble..But to become special one may or may not become spiritual,Any one can become special. If you can eat 5kh of plastic within 10 minutes you will become a secial one and your name will come imediately in the Gennis book. But to become spiritual the quality of humility is very essencial. In Sreemad Bhgaved Geeta Bhagavan advices Arjuna like–
“Vidya vinaya sampanne bhramane gavi hastini
    shuni chaiva shvapake ca panditha:samadarshina”
(B.Geeta.verse 18.chapter.5)Bhagavan says that only a person with right knowledge with humility can see everything as Bhraman. The very same thing our most beloved Amma repeatedly says in all her Sadsangs…

  30. when I write this comment…actually some where in the depth of me might perhaps be wanting to become special…isn’t it? I surely feel so..I think we all have that “wanting to become special” feeling..beat it folks…otherwise we wouldn’t have said or written anything..if I am really humble..I wouldn’t have replied anything. Oops..there goes my spirituality, again!!! Amma please show me the right path toward you…

  31. When we erase the concept “I” from all aspects of our life, we become humble. And that may be the highest state of eperience. “Aum Amriteswaryai Namah”

  32. Spirituality defines an awareness of the Divine. Feeling special about this awareness separates the connection. Being humble allows room for more awareness, more connection to the presence of the Divine.

  33. If i want to come back to the beatitude Ocean as a drop of water, there is one way: go beyond the ego
