Today I joined the Amrita Hospital (Amrita Institute of Medical Science) Jammu and Kashmir Medical Relief Team who have already been working here four days. We set up at a small clinic in the rural village of Naidkhai, Bandipora District, Kashmir. This clinic is normally served by a single doctor for a population of 40,000.

The crowd quickly surged as we arrived. Each clinic room was packed with up to three doctors giving consultations simulaneously. There is an interpreter for each patient and as many relatives as they can squeeze past the door.

Fifteen of our doctors saw over 2000 patients in under seven hours.

Almost all went on to have a FREE prescription filled. Six paramedics staffed the pharmacy, dispensing more than 50 different drugs. Most important is the quality of the medicine, better than can be purchased
anywhere in Kashmir.

In the coming days, I will show you the many specialties of Amma’s travelling hospital.
