generations of love
amma’s kozhikode program is always special. usually, amma gives annaprasham (first feeding) and does vidyarambham (initiation into writing and the alphabet) at the end of the program. this time, two children that came for the ceremony were very interesting. one baby, amardeep, was brought to receive his first solid food from amma. it was a poignant moment, as his mother was given her first food from amma as a baby herself—23 years ago.
a second child, sanvika, who was brought for initiation into writing. her mother, who brought her to amma, was herself initiated into writing by amma…also 23 years ago.
both mothers were born in kozhikode, studied at amma’s amrita vidyalayam school and then went on to get degrees from amrita university. they were both married with the blessings of amma and now are bringing up their children as part of the ‘amma family’.
it is so inspiring to see amma’s loving influence passed on from one generation to another, as they share the best of their own lives with their children. one begins to feel hope for the future as the values of love, compassion, service and an attitude of oneness that amma has brought to the forefront are deeply imprinted in the hearts of successive generations.
