6 September 2007, Amritapuri
The impact of Amma arriving on the stage for bhajans just never seems to diminish. I always feel a thrill as she’s approaching, as does everyone I suppose. I wondered tonight what the impact of Amma’s arrival must be on people who see her only for example once a year. I have to say in all honesty that I have never had the privilege to experience that since from the first time I met Amma I could not stay away from her for very long but found myself very quickly in the travel agency booking my tickets to India. In a way staying with her all the time has sometimes the disadvantage of starting to take Amma’s presence for granted whereas someone seeing her only rarely will not waste a second in her presence. Tuning in is all important where ever we are. Being close to Amma is an aid but not a fool proof way because living under a radio transmission tower does not automatically guarantee a good reception. Someone far away may be able to get a better transmission out of the sheer desperate need to feel her presence that he/she is not getting physically. Having said that, living in Amritapuri has completely exceeded every preconceived idea I had about ashram life. It’s like living inside Amma, an immense vast sweetness which extends in all directions.

The Bhajans tonight were:

  • Govardhana Gokula Nandana
  • Ee Manojna Bhumiyil
  • Manavu Nondiralu Amma (Kannada)
  • Om Shakti Om Shakti
  • Kezhunnen Manasam
  • Nirajanam Nirajanam (Telugu)
  • Om Namah Shivaya
  • Jai Jai Kali Ma

Ps: Sorry for the frequent spelling mistakes, I notice the last blog especially had a lot mistakes. I write the blog as a “stream of thought” without really checking it that much.
