  • Oh Mind Become Surrendered!

17 Aug 2007, Amritapuri The Bhajans tonight were: Yadupati Manahari Chuttuniiri Kanna Ni Yenne Dipka Na Janu (Hindi) Agamanta Porule Sarvavyapiye (Tamil) Om Namah Shivaya Oh Mind Become Surrendered (English version) Chamundaye Kali Ma Oh Mind Become Surrendered! Allow only truth to be your friend. Nobody belongs just to you, no one is your own. Round and round this world you wander not seeing the reason why you’re here. By doing such meaningless actions you cannot escape. Even those who love you dearly cannot stay beside you after death. Your body they found so attractive now scares them away. Captured…

  • Amma’s Avatar

The descending of this Universal Consciousness in human form as Amma – A poet’s vision: One moment in the Timeless Expanse of Consciousness. God was browsing the vast universe. God wanted to take form, to become manifest in a form. God went round scanning the space like one does Google Earth, looking for a place to be born. Kerala, with bright shores, thick coconut groves and lush lagoons—this was chosen as God’s Own Country. God zoomed on a quiet village called Parayakkadavu, facing the roaring Arabbi Sea, on the narrow strip of an island. God could not resist its beauty.…

  • Tatanavitunnu – Amma the Father

Amma sang an interesting set of bhajans last night. The song Tatanavitunnu is one a bit more rarely heard and one of that addresses the divine as father:You are our Father, we your children. We are the flowers born on the soil of this earth. Blinded by the dust of the world, We have strayed for so long. O compassionate One, are you going away, leaving us behind? If so, in the future we will be lost, being eternally bound to this earth. Amma is surely both Mother and Father combining both masculine and feminine qualities perfectly. She will helps…

  • Green Stage

Amma was in a very good mood during bhajans, joking a lot with Swamiji and Ramu. Someone had decorated the stage with some greenery tonight. The background singer girls had to almost sit inside a little garden. Maybe because Amma was today talking about the importance of developing a relationship with nature that someone decided to bring some plants for the bhajans stage. A nice idea i must say. Tonights Bhajans: Viraha Ki Badal (Murali Bhajate Ana) Ulakattinnadhara Vyathayariyikkan Bara Gopala Bala Gopabala ( Kannad) Devi Bhagavati Shantipurnne Om Shakti Om Shakti Om Namah Shivaya Jai Ma Ambe

  • Monday Bhajans

Last night Amma sang the following bhajans: Shyama Sundara Manamiruntuven Uttama Premattin Dipka Na Janu (Hindi) Makaranda Madhurya (Telungu) Kannunirkondu Nin Om Namah Shivaya Alarnda Chutavizhi (Tamil) Jai Jai Jai Durga Maharani (Hindi) Manamiruntuven is a really beautiful prayer: The sky has become darkened like my brooding mind . Both the clouds and my eyes are raining. Though the earth is cooled by the soft rain, These tears only increase the heat that is burning in my mind. O Dark One, why do you hesitate to come before me? Why do you display such a hard heart? I have heard…

  • Knee Deep in a Bed of Roses

6 Sept 2007 – Amritapuri The crew arrived, ready for duty at 9pm.  There were 15 courageous men and women among us, carrying shovels and buckets in our hands and more than a little trepidation in our hearts.  Since there were 10,000 hungry Tulasi plants waiting to be fed in a field about 2km north of the Ashram, we found ourselves gathered at the cowshed to serve up a pile of ‘Tulasi food’ that filled a 100 sq. ft tank to a depth of three feet.  All too soon, (for some of us), the empty dump truck pulled up, ready…

  • Sea of Love

7 Sep 2007, Amrtapuri Tonights Bhajans were a blissful cavalcade of old bhajans. Amma was in a deeply absorbed mood and it felt like she was just radiating bliss. I found myself moving closer to her all through the bhajans. Nin Premam Kondenne must be one of the most beautiful songs ever. What need have I of knowledge or reason? Drown me deep in the sea of thy Love! Tonights bhajans: Manasa Chora Radha Krishna (Hindi) Arikil Undenkilum Nin Premam Kondenne Kasturi Tilakam Ni Intri Verarumillai (Tamil) Pannaga Bhushana Hridaya Pushpame Chamundaye Kali Ma Vishwanath

  • Transmission and tuning in

6 September 2007, Amritapuri The impact of Amma arriving on the stage for bhajans just never seems to diminish. I always feel a thrill as she’s approaching, as does everyone I suppose. I wondered tonight what the impact of Amma’s arrival must be on people who see her only for example once a year. I have to say in all honesty that I have never had the privilege to experience that since from the first time I met Amma I could not stay away from her for very long but found myself very quickly in the travel agency booking my…
