  • Ramayana in Kalari

The heavy rains of monsoon in Kerala make it the wettest and gloomiest season of the otherwise too bright and sunny land. The Kerala month of Karkidakam or the lunar month of Ashaadha falls in the period between mid July and mid August. The astrologers opine that this time period is not auspicious for any endeavours. The vibrations of the time are not positive, say spiritual persons. People, especially the predominantly agriculturist population of Kerala, cannot stir out-doors; they have no work in paddy fields or on farms. Masters prescribe the sole solution of intense prayers and austerities during the…

  • Before the flower shower

Rio Devi Bhava 11 p.m. There are 11 weddings scheduled. “it’s overwhelming” is what some people in the bookstore had said yesterday, and I might suggest that 11 weddings is in the same category. The lines of people at the bookstore tables are several people deep 12:15 The photographer was just talking to me about some native medicine men that came and presented some herbs for Amma in darshan this afternoon. She tasted one that is good for women’s pain, abdominal pain in the vital body and energetic body. Another is used to purify the aura. These herbs grow only…

  • Sweetness in Toronto

I got in line for darshan near the end of the first night of Amma’s programs in Toronto. As I was coming off the chairs, a devotee came up to Amma with a pan of something covered in foil. Since she was one of the last people to get darshan that night, people were clustered around Amma’s chair and on the stage behind Her by that point – and I’m pretty sure more people hurried over when the following took place. The pan was unwrapped and discovered to contain a lovely batch of blueberry crumble. Amma took a tiny piece,…

  • Devi Bhava in Rio

Mother is giving Devibhava darshan at this moment when I write this. It is 11 PM and the hall is full. People have been very devoted today. They applauded a lot for the video about Amma’s charity which they saw before Amma came. Mother has orange colored sari with golden broidery. She looks very beautiful in it, so beautiful! That is all I can say at this moment. At Amma’s Feet Ahalya, Rio, Brazil, 2 August 2007.

  • Forward on the path

3:00 p.m. Darshan ended. I have never seen such a crowd lining her path from the hall, through the lobby, to the elevators. The looks on the faces of the people after Amma went by were priceless. At the same time, in the hall, there was and still is a crowd around the bookstore tables. One of the items not brought was bhajan books, which I found out the first night when I was asked where they could get a copy after they saw my bhajan books. Last night they projected the words to ‘Where Can I Go’ in Portugese…

  • 3rd morning Rio

Yesterday was a little overwhelming here. The first night darshan ended at 5:30 a.m .The second morning program was again packed, and She did not finish giving darshan until 6:15 p.m., a near record for world tours . The bookstore sales are doing very well. One of the odd-job sevas that I picked up was labeling CDs as they are duplicated. We made nearly 200 copies of CDs yesterday . They are selling fine with just hand lettered labels. That seva was very interesting and gave me more insight into Amma’s workings, and how She is forcing ever more progress…

  • Inner presence of the Guru

Today Swami Kaivalyananda answered a number of questions from the brahmacharis on the topic of the Guru, as we recently celebrated Guru Purnima. Here was one question; ‘what is the importance of the physical closeness to the Guru, or living with the Guru?’ Swami said, ‘if one has gained the necessary samskara from previous births and is able to be firm on the path of spirituality, then there is no importance to the physical closeness or distance of the Guru. What is important there is the inner presence of the Guru. Some people stay in the physical presence of the…
