fresh and new after deep meditation.
Om Amriteshvaryai Namah Weekends are incredibly busy here. Saturday and Sunday Amma is giving darshan on the big stage all day. It is very like Devi Bhava except that it goes on all day. This morning Amma came at 10am and it is now 10.16pm and she is about to finish. The ashram has been full of crowds of people; everywhere there are little stalls and canteens supplying food and drink late into the night. It has been raining heavily as well. Where to find the inner silence? Yesterday morning I found it! I attended an IAM refresher course led by…

Joy in the rain
As I left my seva at Amrita University I heard thunder, then the sound of swiftly approaching wind in the branches of the coconut palms. Rain began falling through the atrium of the AICT-Biotech building, bouncing off the plants, falling into the pond below. Unfurling my umbrella I walked swiftly toward the boat jetty in the company of dozens of students, hoping for quick boat service. Alas, the boat was on the other side of the water and the volume of rain increased as we stood clustered together, hopefully staring at the other side of the river. I offered the…

More Contractrs…
I had to go across the backwater to the computer college (Amrita University) to help with a project for Amrita TV. Amrita TV, Amma’s TV channel is up and running and is apparently becoming the most popular channel in Kerala. Nine years ago the multimedia department consisted of nothing but two computers; now, there are two rooms full of computers dedicated to producing television programmes ( as well as a studio in Trivandrum). It is an astonishing explosion of building, technology and manpower, and yet at the same time we are surrounded by the beauties of the Keralan backwaters. While waiting…

Delightful bhajan evenings
Tonight Amma delighted her Spanish children by singing ‘Ishwar Tumhi’ in Spanish. At the moment there are a lot of Spanish devotees in the ashram and as many of them do not speak English Amma has sang quite a lot in the Latin tongue lately. Another novelty was the Italian version of the Song Lokah Samastah Sukhinoh Bhavantu. Looking down from the stage at the face of an Italian man down in the audience, one saw clearly how important it is to people when Amma sings in their native language. Such was the devotion on his face. Amma feels so…

Reflection of our feelings
OM Amriteswaryai Namaha Today was another interesting and lovely day around Amma. I missed out the question answer session with Amma due to work and landed up at the ashram during lunch time and was lucky enough to just be there for the last few words by Amma and then the concluding bhajan of “Hari bol Hari bol” which Amma sang in Her usual sweet way. Right after that got a spot near Amma’s seat, (thanked my stars). Amma was doing Her work ( giving darshan) while I sat watching Her. There was a western family who had lost a…

Amma has proved
Amma is the pure, blessed One. Look at any photo from the old days when she was ‘just a teenage girl Ha!’ and a photo from this year and look at the eyes in both photos. See what I mean! Nothing has changed, nothing. Amma is pure beyond words. Amma is ever-changeless. She is the One. It is almost scary to realize that this perfect, blessed One in an instant could crush the entire cosmos, all the universes of all time. Yet Amma shows us a simple, small, sweet lady in white who wouldn’t hurt a fly, and only cares…

Coming Home
This year the ashram seems home more than before as I arrive after a summer away from the ashram. The loving greetings exchanged between the residents and visitors from all over the world have warmed all hearts. People seem very sweet and relaxed, perhaps because the hard physical work that followed the tsunami was replaced this summer for most, by hours of sadhana, scriptural study and satsang. There seems to be a softer, more relaxed atmosphere despite the large number of devotees arriving for Amma’s darshan. The terrible events occurring in the world outside the ashram drift into the back…

Trip to Amirta Niketan
– Amma’s orphanage at Parippally Fifty-one people from all over the world spent the day with children at the orphanage. They danced and sang for each other; the best form of communication as many people spoke only Spanish, French, Italian and even Czech. The children were particularly fascinated by a singer from the Cameroons who really got everyone moving! The hard-working staff cooked a wonderful Kerala style meal and everyone commented that it was the best food they had eaten so far on their visit. Many new children have joined for this academic year and for them seeing all these…
