Final Day of Fun

Today is the fifth and final day of the Children’s camp. It will be almost sad to see all the kids go tomorrow, even though I’ve always considered myself a bit of a recluse and definitely not very good with children.
These past five days have made me reflect on some things like the nature of innocence and enthusiasm, and their place in spiritual life. As we grow older, and often after being on the spiritual path for some time, we tend to loose these qualities. In some cases we try to make up for it by various things. Each one of us probably knows what those are. But nothing can make up for innocence and humility when it comes to leading a happy and prosperous life, be it spiritual or worldly. Life will always remain exciting then, even if nothing much happens. Just recently Amma told a brother of mine not to loose his beginner’s enthusiasm and innocence, when he was experiencing a low ebb in his spiritual life. I’m sure that is one instruction from Amma that applies to everyone, everywhere and always.
Today during bhajans I was swamped by little boys and girls on the stage. They all wanted to sing along from my bhajan books so I had to keep giving them turns because there were so many. At one point Amma turned around and laughed seeing me surrounded by so many little ones all trying to get my attention, and my books. They were very sweet as they sang along with Amma. One even wanted to get up dance.

The songs of the evening were:

Radhika Manohara
Amme Yi Jivante
Ellamirikkilum
Makaranda Madhurya
Chintanai Ceytituvay
Hridaya Pushpame
Om Namah Shivaya
Jai Jai Janani Jai Ho Teri
