MA Center celebrates 20th anniversary
This past February 14th marked the 20th anniversary of the MA Center and hundreds of people came from all over the US to celebrate. Since 1989, the center has served as the focal point for Amma’s spiritual and humanitarian activities throughout North America.
MA Center is located on 167 acres of pristine rolling hills located about one hour from San Francisco, California. Since its inception, the center has provided a welcoming community for spiritual seekers to enjoy a contemplative and nurturing atmosphere amid the beauty of its natural surroundings through retreats, volunteer activities, classes, chanting, devotional singing, and meditation.
Over 300 people filled Amrita Hall for a the celebrations which included a 30 minute video showing clips of Amma’s first visit to the grounds, the construction of the Ashram, and Amma’s first darshan programs in the newly completed hall. During the day, 180 trees were planted on the Ashram grounds as a part of the Center’s dedication to Amma’s teachings on respecting and preserving Mother nature while becoming more and more self-sustainable.
After the video, many of the old-timers as well as newcomers were filled with tears of joy while listening to Ron Gottsegen’s humble and often humorous recollections of the early days of the Ashram.
A huge chocolate cake was made for the event which was distributed as prasad. Everyone was also treated to a delicious Indian meal.
