Mother I Need You

The hall was very crowded. Amma gave darshan at a faster pace than on other days. Towards the end of darshan, someone brought up an Edison Amberol Phonograph (c. 1900) – one of the earliest phonographs made. It plays music that has been recorded on wax cylinders. Amma was quite intrigued by this and listened intently to the music while it was played. All this happened during Ayi Giri Nandini so we couldn’t hear what was going on.

Bhajans tonight also included yet another new Punjabi Bhajan – Mayyiji Menu Tu Chajdi – which means ‘Mother I need you’, but it is upbeat rather than mournful. Ramanand sang along with Amma and added wonderful vocalizations which really raised the energy in the hall.

  1. Nice Post ! yes, Amma I too need You. and Saka Varamarulvay Rama is a carnatic song, i think. is it the same one ?

  2. Third song is “Raga vairikal ningitum”, not Raya Vauirikal Ningitum…It was a great and meaningful malayalam song.
