Amma is back HOME here at Amritapuri. How wonderful! How normal! It has been a true celebration these last two days. For one who has been in the Ashram past two plus months, the last two days is like the celebrations of all joys of heaven. Amma came back to Amritapuri via Cochin all the way from the last North American stop of Toronto. A lot of her children flew along with her.

Amma reached the Ashram by car.. we had received the news of her coming the previous night. Morning chants started off earlier than usual. A small crowd gathered eagerly at the entrance.. a line of boys and girls all waiting for Mamma. Slowly silently a white car took its turn.. hush became rush and then “Amma Amma Amma Amma”…shouts and cheers, cries from all corners engulfed the scene of the peaceful morning. Oh what a delight to the forlorn! Truly it was chests heaving, eyes watering, lips smiling, .. Amma looked at us, walked slow after her tiresome journey yet there was something special..and we waited..

Amma climbed her little stairs to the level where she can cast a view, bent down completely showing a bejeweled smile and started searching eye-to-eye with everyone there as if connecting to each one in her own ways. The look of those eyes conveyed a longing as if she had been waiting so long to see us all. Oh What a Love!

One part of us want her to rest a bit more.. especially knowing how tough the tours are and.. then there is the little kid inside all wanting the Mother to come play and badly wanting his hug..oh what a demanding kid he is… But Amma is Amma, the best Mom one can think of. She pleases all..Yes, Amma came out today to stay out on the beach with us.

Around five-ish in the evening, a reminding bell went out announcing what all hearts had wanted. Even little school kids ran back after school, one ran past me saying “bro heard Amma is out on the beach!” and that’s it. We all walked past to the beach on the ayurveda meditation grounds. There in midst of all that sand and people was Amma already asking for a good joke. Yes, Amma first asked all requesting anyone of us all to tell a joke. It was meant to kindle laughter while talking a lesson. No one came forward and then Amma started cracking us up with her dose of infinite humor. The whole group was laughing. Some of the eyes just looking in awe like the ones in Love. Missing minds filling up their brim to full but any amount is not enough. Amma talked of little lessons, lessons of patience, sincerity, purity, attentiveness in one’s everyday life. She wanted to look at the sea with all her children in the front and at her side. The waves lashed closer but gentler.. the sea seemed wanted to feel her too. Even an usually active neighborhood dog lay down in perfect attention and fully stretched listening to the joyful gathering. A majestic eagle swooned low and circled the sky above, just over the height of a few feet. The whole nature seemed to rhythm in Amma’s presence. No less words can express the feeling.

A little later, a song.. Amma started a very melodious bhajan blending beauty with devotion. Enthralled as the crowds sat, even the sea silenced her hard waves.. Amma, made a light chat talking of the sea and then the path paved.. Amma had gotten up. She announced her way to bhajans as it was bhajan time already. The crowd trickled out of the beach to the Ashram bhajan hall.. As i entered Amma had already started off the beautiful list of fast and soul stirring songs some new some old.. delivering the minds afar and deep..

Oh What a celebration..What beauty in Life. Mamma i am so very happy ’cause i am coming to you..like the Bixio’s Italian song goes..

“MAMMA SON’ TANTO FELICE
PERCHE RITORNO DA TE
LA MIA
CANZONE TI DICE
CHE IL PIU BEL GIORNO PER ME”

– Shyam

  1. I wish I had been there, I am not aware when AMMA would fulfill my desire of letting me reach Amritapuri, because I know no one can reach there without her wishes. If she wants me there she would definitely plan it out. MA please please let me be there. I want to lay in your lap and sleep peacefully for ever.

  2. So beautifully written! Like the salt water spray brings the sea to her tongue, you brought Amma and Love to me. Far away, yet I almost tasted our closeness to Amma. I wont talk about the mouth watering part, lest Amma begins Her cleaning of my impure thoughts. Thank you.

  3. I was waiting and waiting for this post. I can really feel the excitement and happiness ashramites would have experienced after seeing AMMA after a long time. 6. I am happy to note the contents on AMMA’s routine at the ashram. Further this information was shared with me by my son who got the oppertunity to study in Amrita Engg college this year. My son was very escastic over the fact that the could have the DARSHAN of AMMA on 27th evening in the Aurveda meditation grounds beach. He informed me that AMMA’s gracious looks fell on him and AMMA gave a beautiful and loveable smile to him. I could feel my son’s expression and feelings over phone when we were discussing his routine at the ashram and college.
Now I am longing to be at the lotus feet of AMMA.
