During the second year of Amma’s Uttarakhand Flood Rehabilitation Program she has asked us to focus our efforts on schools. In both Chandrapuri and Kandara villages, the Intercolleges (High School) need new classrooms, but can’t begin until dilapidated old buildings are removed. This sounded like a perfect job for our volunteer team of 65 Japanese students.

After two days of heavy rain and cold which interfered with their work schedule, they were more than ready for some hard work. A few warm up stretches and then they literally attacked the building. Chants of “Ai, Ai” filled the air as the walls came tumbling down.

By afternoon, little remained. Two days work was completed in one. In true Amma fashion, all of the rubble is sorted for reuse: large stones, small stones, timbers, and tin sheets.
