I have two very memorable experiences with Amma:
I was sitting by Her when She was giving Darshan in Coralville (iowa), and this little baby girl came up with her parents and caught hold of Amma’s japa mala and wouldn’t let go of it! When he finally did, Amma looked straight at me and raised Her eyebrows and grinned, and i did the same back. It was a memorable experience because last year was the first time She had ever looked right at me that I remember.
Another memorable experience was when the kids group i am in charge of was singing for Her. The youngest member was 6 and a half, and the second he started singing chilanka ketti, Amma spun around, and watched him sing for several minutes! It was really nice for him, because he was very nervous, and I wanted Amma to see him singing!!
The day when Amma gave me the mantra
It was when I visited AMMA’s Ashram in Kozhikode for the first time. Then, in the following week, I visited Amritapuri and had AMMA’s Darshan, naturally the first time in this life time. AMMA asked me a few questions with so much love in Malayalam. But I was totally in confused state of mind and just uttered a few words, stuttering. That was the first darshan. Then, the next day, I had Bhava Darshan. Mmmm… I can’t type anymore…
When i realized, truly, without a doubt, that Blessed Amma has always been with me, every moment of this life, from before i was born.
And…
Every time i ask Blessed Amma a question, in Darshan ,and she feeds me silence.
The most memorable moment with amma was when she gave me my mantra. Time seemed to come to a stand still and all sounds disappeared, as Amma whispered the mantra into my ear, it was definetly from a divine source not comprehensible by our worldly senses. Amma also gave me the exact mantra i have always wanted. I still remember the instructions given by the person next to Amma: “this is a very special moment between you and mother, when she gives you your mantra, Amma makes a divine promise that she will be with you till the very end….”.
🙂 each moment spent with amma is memorable in its own way….but my best one was during the brahmashtanam festival at ernakulam..it was a special occasion for me bcos i had the first prize in value education essay contest and received the prize from amma…. as i was busy opening my prize cover and examining its contents, a friend of mine rushed in and asked me to come on stage… she had presented to Amma a set of poems written by her…..and Amma wanted someone to set tune to it….and …i was the chosen one……the clap Amma gave after my recital was the best appreciation i ever received in my life!!!!
On 8.2.2005, without prior intimation, unexpectedly AMMA came to our house in Mysore. We had no time to arrange anything to welcome Her. We did nothing; no pada pooja, no arathi, no sweets and, oh, we even had no money at that time! Amma came and showered love and grace, just like Bhagavan Sri Krishna visited poor Sudhama’s house. AMMA transformed my family life from hell to ” Heaven “…
It was the end of darshan at the Toronto retreat last year, when Amma looked at me and tapped me on my nose and said “2nd time” and laughed. Amma had asked those who did not get Darshan to come and get prasad – kisses from Her. I heard it as Amma was leaving the hall so came to get prasad from her. When Amma say me and my palms seeking a hershey kiss. She said this and laughed. That meant Amma remembered me. She knows everything despite hugging so many people. I love you Amma ….second time and third time and 4th time and many many more times:)
Around Amma, every moment is a blissful experience. In these intimate moments, we can get a sense of Her divinity. That’s what happened when i meet Her for the first time. During the darshan, when She took me in Her arms, it was as if a magnet attracted an iron filings. In the depths of my being, I felt an explosion. Amma has awakened something within, something that words cannot explain. Although i’ve been told who Amma was before i went into her arms, this heartfelt experiment will always be engraved in my mind!
Last year in Boston during Devi Bhava I got to sit close to Amma for some time. As I was watching Amma give darshan, the girl putting prasad in Amma’s hand, was selecting wrong things between petal, hersheys & ash. Amma would quietly & quickly put down what was given with a smile and pick up the right things herself.
I have done prasad seva and I wanted to get up and help, but felt I would be intruding the girl’s opportunity to serve Amma. Now, as Amma would turn sideways to pick up the right things she would look at me, and, I would be in bliss!!! This was my very recent happy moment with a teaching – to be alert in whatever you do and be in the present, and you’ll be happy.
Everytime i meet Amma is beyond anything i can describe. My whole body and mind become a receptor of divine energy . I feel her grace showering on me. I can only wonder how this is possible and be endlessly thankful. She switches the light of my heart on and all that i experience is a great teaching to become free. Thank you for asking!
I remember once in San Ramon, my family and I were at the program, the tokens eluded us with the token givers saying that there were no more tokens for that night. My children and husband had stayed up that night and I was sad that they would not get Darshan. I was shattered and I ran from where I was, crying. Immediately a lady came hurriedly and told us that Amma was calling us for Darshan! Then Amma proceeded to put my head in Her lap and consoled me. My mind was blank and I was relieved to just be on Her lap! She also proceeded to tell my husband a story and made him laugh. This was one of the most memorable experiences of our lives.
Couple of years back, at a retreat, I took darshan in the morning and did dishwashing seva in blazing sun in the afternoon. At night I was preparing to leave because I was very tired. After bhajans Amma was descending down from stage to darshan. I wanted to touch Amma’s feet before leaving, so I was stretching my hand through crowd, and a lap attendant thought that I was trying to get in the darshan line so she shouted at me “Hey..go away..you had darshan in the morning!” All of a sudden, Amma looked at me and Her face lit up. She grabbed hold of my hand and pulled me with great force towards Her and took me in Her arms. Then she looked at the attendant and said “She gets double !” 🙂 I was totally blissed out by this sudden grace. Then Amma asked me to sit by Her side.
I first knew Amma through her books and got crazy about meeting her in person. I finally met her on 9th March 2008 physically and the satisfaction, the inner happiness I got is not explainable. She was in delhi for four days and I daily went for her darshan and every time I had a unique feeling. I felt I have met my real mother.
Amma makes every moment with Her memorable. The best times are when She takes away my mind and let’s me experience life in a blissful state. Once during Devi Bhava at San Ramon, She lured me out to the pond in the middle of the night and treated me to the most unbelievable ‘light and sound’ show until dawn. Another time while standing near Her, She played with babies and suddenly I found I was doing exactly what the baby was doing. From then, for two weeks She kept my mind in bliss. Coming back to earth was a torture.
My first Darshan at Amritapuri ! Amma was giving darshan in the Kudil (old hut). As soon as i reached Her, she said “Hey who has come?” She looked lovingly into my eyes. I couldn’t control my tears. I felt as if i knew her for long & tried hard to hold my tears. I always pray to Amma to give me that pure innocence with which i met Her for the first time so that i can feel closer to her!
My most memorable moment with Amma is my “Guru Mantra Initiation”. I was in 7th Std, i just cannot beleive even now, that Amma permitted me for Mantra, she clearly uttered “Yes” 3 times. That Smiling, Compassionate Glance, is ever fresh within me…
AMMA says that “Our goal is not a Heaven after decay of our Mortal coils, but to realise Immortality while living with in our Mortal Coils”. AMMA gave and is still giving everyone of us a number of lessons in life. Her intention is to make everyone of us go beyond the dualities of FAVOURABLE / UNFAVOURABLE results, that is to maintain equanimous state of mind, so that we can make every moment a MEMORABLE ONE b’coz in every moment SHE is with you.
There are so many memorable moments, it’s mpossible to choose one most memorable but all the very best so far involve the bliss of love-love for Amma, love for others, merging with the love that pervades every particle of the creation and is Amma, the love that grows and flows in waves encompassing everything. May we all experience and share such love at all times!
What an AWESOME topic!
For many years I had a very strong desire to look deep into Amma’s eyes, for her to really look at me, and me catch a glimpse of her true essence.
I had gone to Amritapuri and during my stay there met a Swedish man and we became close friends! The two of us went for darshan to ask Amma if we should be together. After waiting for very long, he was first in Amma’s arms… Amma asked him “are you okay?” in English… Then reading my mind She looks up at me… and answering my most cherished prayer, She looked deep and penetratingly into my eyes with a huge smile on her face, and in that moment every single one of chakras starting at my muladhara chakra blasts open one by one until it reaches my crown and I burst out in ecstatic laughter and begin wildly clapping my hands… She spoke to my new friend for at least a whole minute… and asked the Swami next to her to translate what she was saying and he said… “I don’t know! She is talking in Swedish!!!”
Needless to say, Amma has blessed the two of us to be married and we will most likely perform a formal ceremony with her in Europe later this year, with Her Grace…JAI MA!
I have never physically met Amma. But the most memorable day related to her would be the first time i learned about her and read some of the inspiring books about her.
I am not able to say a particular moment. Each and every moment is very very precious for me. The sweetness and preciousness increases day by day. But of course when Amma allowed me to perform the padapuja and the moments of Tripadapuja are very very memorable experiences.
Each moment spent with amma is memorable. No doubt, Amma allowed me to perform the padapuja when one of my friend was doing.
