The toddler s cry
30 Aug 2009 Today was a busy Darshan day, a new episode in the Amritapuri series of Infinite Love. Amma came at Her usual morning routine and the evening ended almost around 11 pm. The evening was superb. As evening set in around 5pm, Amma was still super fresh and was smiling, talking and hearing the countless problems of her many children who had queued up to meet her. Sometime later as Amma was busily giving Darshan, there was a distinct cry of a toddler. There were two western devotees and the cry was from a little baby in their…

Strange fantasy land
11 August 2009 Green coconut trees swaying in the wind, the bright afternoon sunlight glancing off the waters, little waves rippling on its surface- flashing like sequins… the backwaters looked like a silk sari laid out on the land…glinting & mesmerizing with its seductive charm… some unknown water bird calling in low musical notes…the wind lulling me to a near stupor of lazy contentment… Hmmm. Enough of that. I’m not getting paid to daydream! But if wishes were horses, and pigs had wings…well, there would be hordes of pigs flying through the air (not to mention, spreading swine flu in…

The little kid & the Divine name
16 Aug 2009, Amritapuri Last few days have been Darshan days one next to another. It amazes us every single day plainly to imagine and see Amma’s white saree yellowed or even turned dark reddish brown with the many faces that feel the loving embrace. Amma keeps on giving Darshan from morning continuously without a break until almost midnight sometimes stretching until 4am or so. Today Amma finished her Darshan at 11:20pm. Considering that this is not just for today but four major days a week, here at Amritapuri, with this long schedule with no food, not even an extra…

Appeasement of thirst to come from within
2 thoughts to think on Only on formal occassions are Amma’s words recorded – but many a times what comes in informal settings is so beautiful and provides food for thought. A devotee working in AIMS came up for darshan. Even earlier he has evinced a strong interest in staying in the ashram itself, close to Amma and not getting involved in institutional work. But as Amma has assigned him work in AIMS, out of his love for Amma, he happily does his seva there. This time when he came for darshan – after having a very loving darshan of…

The sea plays with children
7 Aug 2009, Amritpauri The routine of the Ashram is what keeps the buzz uniform. Monday is supposedly a no-public-Darshan-day, Tuesday her Satsang day, Wednesday and Thursday are Darshan days like on Saturdays and Sundays and Friday, a meditative day. However Amma sets a high bar for her many children to follow. The Friday last was one another of those special days. Amma hailed us all once again to the beachside. As the song “Neelkadakaraiyil Thavan cheyyum nithiya kannigaiyai” goes, Amma had sat down facing the sea and had started the meditation. The sight was really beautiful. We, her children,…

Mamma sono tanto felice
27 Jul 09 Amma is back HOME here at Amritapuri. How wonderful! How normal! It has been a true celebration these last two days. For one who has been in the Ashram past two plus months, the last two days is like the celebrations of all joys of heaven. Amma came back to Amritapuri via Cochin all the way from the last North American stop of Toronto. A lot of her children flew along with her. Amma reached the Ashram by car.. we had received the news of her coming the previous night. Morning chants started off earlier than usual.…

Amma feeds Chocolate !
Last month a young man arrived on the penultimate day of Amma’s darshan, He called from Bankura 2 days before and said he had to meet Amma immediately as Amma had given him a pull! He had to fly from Kolkata via Chennai to reach Amritapuri so as not to miss Amma’s darshan. He arrived on 6th May and joined another Bengali family from Malda for darshan after lunch. After giving darshan to the head of the Malda family Amma gave darshan to the young man from Bankura. After giving usual hug and prasad suddenly Amma pushed a piece of…

Seeing off Amma
The tune of every word seemed leading us to do better for ourselves and the world. Through her simple words, Amma insisted that we go ahead in our Sadhana. Amma’s concern was that of the Mother- a loving mom who has sent her only child abroad for doctoral research.
