Visit of farmers from Washim
After Amma’s public program in February 2008 in washim, around 1,500 people expressed the wish to visit Amritapuri for Amma’s darshan. Many inquired with me about the cost of travel expenses and they started saving the money for the trip. At last on 14th September, a group of 16 ladies and 22 gents dressed in traditional maharashtrian costume arrived in Amritapuri. The ladies were wearing the 9 meter (madisar) sari and the gents dhoti and cap, all typical village attire. After Amma’s darshan their hearts melted and they became very emotional. Many of them had brought food to offer to…

Her seating arrangements
The other night, instead of going to satsang, I had to attended a fund raising ‘soiree’ for the non-profit environmental group I work for here in Canada. I was not really looking forward to it and felt quite awkward about having to dress up for an expensive fundraising dinner in order to represent our organization and make small talk with people I don’t know.I ended up sitting next to strangers, feeling jealous that all my favorite work people had somehow ended up at another table. The only people I knew at my table were my boss and his wife, and…

Looking for places to rehabilitate
17 – 20 Sep 2008, Supaul, Bihar After the successful start of the first flood relief camp by the math we set forth to more interior and more heavily affected districts and finally reached Supaul district on 18th morning. As before we started visiting various camps and looked for an ideal place for setting up our camp so that we could run our camp in an independent manner and provide better service to the flood affected people residing in our camps. After two full days of traveling in Supaul district we came across places where the water level was still…

The word has gone around
7 Sep 2008, Purnia Today was a very interesting day. Br Nijamrita and Dr Rammohan and myself went to meet the District Magistrate Mr Sridhar to discuss various issues regarding setting up a long term temporary shelters and to finalize the place for it. During the meeting he also suggested various relief camps which were very much in need of medical services. One of them was the Janata colony better known as the Aam Bagh camp because it is located in a mango grove. We reached there around mid day and saw thousands of small hut type accommodations all around,…

Friends with similar values
The 4th European Youth Exchange was held in M.A. Center Germany, surrounded by beautiful hills, forests and fields. This year our Finnish group consisted of six participants: Outi and Riikka had attended the Youth Exchange before but for Meira, Paprika, Reeta and Wille it was a whole new experience. The camp began with a nice opening ceremony during which each national group presented their members and sang a song in their own native language. We chose to sing a popular Finnish children’s song and got a huge applause like every other group. I think it was great that we were…

Looking forward
Spending time with people who are enthusiastic and committed to bring positive change to the world is really refreshing. The topic ‘The Future in Our Hands’ was very well explored; practical tips and inspiration encouraged all to grab the future with both hands and to be the change we want to see. The gathering of people from all over Europe created a very diverse network, a nesting bed for ideas and great future Europe-wide plans. It was a very exciting experience; AYUDH’s potential to reach out and bring positive change to our world became more apparent with every second. Being…

The Lamp of my Life
Many times have I found myself wondering ‘why me’?? I really mean it … but ‘why me’?? There are a million souls in this universe and still why did I happen to be the ‘CHOSEN ONE’?? I am not sure if there’s someone existing in the name of god, but I definitely believe in DA POWER, which I call MY GOD, the power so powerful, that can heal, revitalize and rejuvenate a living soul. I don know how many in this world have experienced this aura of positive energy, I really don’t care even if none has ..but I truly…

Opening to Grace
Seva — selfless service — purifies us and retrains our mind to think of others instead of our own desires. Similar to the way a parent models the behavior that they want their children to have, Amma is constantly showing us that the path to enlightenment begins with Seva. Her tireless work with the poor and homeless as well as providing years of Darshan for anyone who comes to Her in need is the embodiment of self sacrifice. You don’t see Amma telling us that She needs a break from all those egos or that hugging us is beneath Her…
