  • Thoughts on the Women s Day

As I sit in my office today, I am wondering about the hype Woman’s day is creating in Delhi. Radio Shows, Sales etc are all eagerly awaiting March 8 to acknowledge the role of Women in today’s society. Suddenly my thoughts take me to Amma’s picture beaming on the wall and I knew I want to write something about the strongest yet softest woman I have ever come across and probably ever will. She keeps giving us a part of herself everyday, a fact that all of us are truly thankful about. The scar on her right cheek is a…

  • Mysterious Bhavani, Mysterious Amma

Jan, Bharata Yatra 2009 This south indian tour has been fascinating for me. Usually I have seen Amma on US tours- somehow seeing Her near temples and holy rivers, seems more appropriate than in hotels and ballrooms… This time was the first time I accompanied Amma’s famous trips to Her favorite Bhavani river. Little did I realise the rich symbology that was to hit me. I first thought that Bhavani was a simple river, whose banks have been sanctified by Amma each year. But somehow, I thought, if each time, Amma stops there, there must be something special there. I…

  • Fruits of my action

18 Jan 2009, Bhavani River, Bharata Yatra 2009 About two years ago, when I was living at the San Ramon ashram, I had to drive into San Francisco one day for work. San Francisco is about an hour away and there are many homeless people in the city. I had brought a lunch with me that day and driving home at the end of the day, I still had a nice red apple left uneaten. As I pulled up to a stop light, I spotted a man on the street corner, whom, by his appearance, I could tell was homeless.…

  • Letter to Amma for the New Year

In this 1st day of 2009 I write you this letter. As my Guru, I ask you to remove all the negative tendencies out of me. I pray that you burn me like the many other Devas of your splendid Form did on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, when you revealed yourself to Arjuna. By getting this boon from the Supreme, I will surely attain you. All this anger, bad thoughts, negative vibrations & all those emotions that block me from my true nature, I offer them at your Lotus Feet. Dance on me like you did when you killed the…

  • Shine on you crazy diamond

Almost two months ago a tiny dying street puppy, landed in our home. For almost two weeks, Angel, as we named him, was taken to the veterinary hospital and treated for insect infested wounds. I never thought he would make it through the bad times, because he was just too tiny to hang on to his dear life. Occasionally we [my sister or my mom] would smear him with Amma’s vibhuti, praying in our hearts for Amma to cure him. Hoping against hope, we were glad when one day dad said; he was on the way to recovery. With those…
