Amritapuri ashram
  • 3 days in Nerul

after the sivaji park public program we went to the ashram. ashram is on top of a hill in new bombay. you can see the city, nerul railway station, the sea… alll from the top of the ashram building. there are other two temples and a church on the same hill. it was so dusty, hot, humid… people move like ants in their cars on the road. the leaves on the trees have become brown due to the dust in the atmosphere. the city life is some thing i dont like. but life is there. people have devotion. nerul brahmasthanam…

  • 200 crores

we left pune as soon as the darshan was over. in fact amma walked to her camper right from the stage. i had to grab my camera bag and run through the crowds to the car to follow Amma. my shirt and dothi were full with butter and milk. some curd was still there on my beard – i saw it on the mirror of the car- which spilled when amma put in my mouth. we entered into the express highway. in four places it passes through the tunnels – through the mountain. main one is more than one kilometer…

  • Mumbai Program

I joined the tour in Mumbai. Amritapuri was blissfully quiet and it was almost tempting to stay in order to do some sadhana and study, but then again you can always do that, can’t you. The longing to see Amma got the better of me and I hopped on the train. First there was the usual public program in Shivaji Park, which was massive in scale and intense in many ways. I have always liked Mumbai ever since I came to India in 1995 and it is good to see that, although the city has gone through quite a lot…

  • Smile Always?

We see many people come to Amma, not knowing anything about Her, but when they meet Her you see the smile blossom on their face – and you know that a bond has been established. Many reporters from different newspapers came to interview Amma in Hyderabad. One particular incident to share — Amma had agreed to give an interview to a reporter from the leading local newspaper ‘Eenadu’. We had our ashram people there to translate for him as he was more fluent in his mother tongue Telugu, but he had brought a recorder along with him all the same.…

  • Lunch and Tea

We crossed Andhra Pradesh, then Karnataka and entered Maharashtra. Even though Karnataka is a big state, a small portion of Northern Karnataka intersects the national highway NH9. Amma stopped for lunch in a village in Maharashtra. The vehicle pulled over to a random spot. It was the second time Amma was stopping at the same spot. Can u believe it? Yes, it was the same house. The members of the house could of course remember Amma’s previous visit. While Amma waited for the buses to come, she started reading a bunch of letters and responding to them. It was about…

  • Showering Petals

During Amma’s visit to Hyderabad in February 2006, I had the unique blessing of performing Arati to Amma along with other devotes. Generally Amma showers petals on all the devotees who perform Arati. I was the third person in the queue to perform Arati. By the time my turn came there were few petals already on Amma’s lap. The petals would have been fallen on Amma’s lap when she was showering them on other devotees during arati. A thought occurred in my mind. I wished that it would be so nice if Amma showers the petals on me from her…

  • From the hill top

The Hyderabad Brahmasthanam is situated on top of a hill. It’s a beautiful temple. From there you see the city of Secunderabad (Hyderabad and Secunderabad are twin cities). You can also see the runway of the Secunderabad airport. As you stand by the temple, many a times you will feel that you can talk to the passengers or wave your hands to them because the plane flies so low. Actually from the temple you can see the runway. Amma’s room is near the Brahmasthanam temple. There is an Amrita Vidyalayam and Computer Institute in the ashram complex. The weather was…
