This is My Rest
19 May 2011, Amritapuri It is that time of the year… when Amma gives room darshan. Before taking off on Her world tour, Amma meets all the ashramites from Amritapuri and all branch ashrams, individually in her room. As one family finishes, she rings a bell and another walks in … one after another… Today was my room darshan. Accompanying my aged father and mother in law, we went in and sat near Amma . She gave us all darshan, strained to feed us prasad with her own hands, enquired about our welfare, about our health etc. At which point…

Krishna’s cows in Amritapuri!
A bright morning here in Amritapuri: the new miniature indigenous cows that the ashram got recently from the Kerala Agriculture University were moved to their new separate cowshed close to Amma’s room… Very cute animals, especially their rabbit-style ears continuously moving to capture the various sounds around them! They are from two endangered breeds of cows that once were a common household milk producing animal in Kerala and other parts of India: The Vechoor Cow (vechur cow)and the Kasargod Dwarf. They are supposed to be the breeds that Krishna once played with and made so dear to his heart… They…

Divine Owls?
Amritapuri, 15th February 2011 Few days ago a baby owl was brought to Amma during darshan. It had fallen from its nest people said… Amma blessed the bird and made everyone happy, then instructed that it be returned to the nest. Later I was shown the nesting place, which is between the first and second floor of the back of the E building (facing the Juice Stall). I enjoyed peeping at these beautiful birds from distance. At night time you could hear them screech for what seemed to be a full-night rather annoying noise. I also learned that there were…

Fruit of complaint
This happened a couple of weeks back. I was mentioning to some of my brothers at the ashram that in the 10 years since meeting Amma, She had not given me a fruit on any of the darshans that I had in all these years. More than mentioning it was a kind of complaining that other than me all those of my friends and my other brothers who met Amma around the same time as me and came to the ashram had got a fruit from Amma at least on one occasion. Following this I had the sweet opportunity of…

Supreme Love that lights up all creation
My celebration of Christmas began on the beach in the late afternoon of December 24th. The waves were rushing to the shore reverberating against the rocks. The sea breeze cooled us. Eagles circled overhead. Several hundred devotees were sitting around Amma under the palms; cross-legged on the sand before her, perched on chairs and leaning against the rocks. I thought of the Fisher of Men, whose birthday we were about to celebrate. Now over two thousand years later, I was sitting with the Fisher Girl on the seashore of her birthplace. When young she had meditated here alone: now she…

I was naked and you clothed Me
24 Dec 2010, Amritapuri Another Christmas – so very meaningful when you are in the Divine Presence of a Master. And a play by Amma’s western children which was a reflection of the love they felt for their Master, Amma. The scenes were perfect, the execution wonderful. A true labour of love. At one point during the performance Amma expressed some discomfort. It seemed like Amma was feeling cold. At that point one of Amma’s western children, whom I had not seen before, approached Her, stepping through the jam packed hall. He had a plastic carry bag in his hand.…

Cleaning is also a celebration
To keep India Clean and Green, Amma said in her Birthday Message that the MAM is ready to construct public toilets in schools and public places if state governments, school management committees and local people collaborate. This project will be initiated in Kerala. Thereafter, it will be implemented gradually in other states of India. {read} Amma always leads by example. The best possible example of ‘Cleaning Management’ was exhibited during Amma’s 57th Birthday Celebrations at Amritapuri. The ashram was visited by lakhs of people during 26th and 27th of September. Any congregation of such size always leaves behind unimaginable quantities…

More than 24 hours…
Amritapuri, Monday 27th September 2010, 8:45am: Amma leaves her room heading to the stage where the programs celebrating her 57th Birthday are about to start… Amritapuri, Tuesday 28th September 2010, 9:05am: After more than 24 hours, including 19 hours of continuous darshan, Amma is back to her room… Celebrating her birthday? … or making others happy?

Cooking for thousands
In this paradise, Amritapuri, the abode of Amma, we usually hear numerous wonderful experiences of various people from different walks of life. They throng here to catch a glimpse of Amma, eagerly waiting for that precious moment, perhaps a few seconds of their entire lifetime. We bring to you the experiences of a devotee, Mr. Baskaran, a native of Calicut, who was once working in the Middle East for about 30 years. When we met him this morning, he was busy cooking rice in the kitchen. (He usually cooks for all during days of Amma’s Indian Tour). Even during this…
