  • Transcendent Bhajans

The bhajans tonight were just pure bliss. Especially as Amma sang older songs like Agamanta Porule, the atmosphere was bursting with the presence of the Divine. Music is such an inspiring thing when it is used as a means to go deep within. In Mothers hands it becomes something completely transcendent. The songs were: Krishna Vasudeva Hare Oru Nalum Piriyatto Karunamayi Devi (Telugu) Agamanta Porule Amma Amma Enai Unnay Aldbhuta Charitre Om Namah Shivaya Mere Hridaya Sree Ram Ma Jay Jagadambe Ma 9.12.2008 Vishwanath

  • Heart and Soul

The moment arrived yesterday at around 1 pm, when Amma’s tour caravan pulled up in front of the temple and the thirsting of her children was quenched by the sight of her gracious form. The life and soul of the ashram was reinstated and the hearts of everyone once again overflowed with light. For those who did not go on the European tour it has been a long time of introspection and longing. Maybe the webcasts help a little but no projection can match the living flame. Already today despite the huge workload that Amma has waiting for her after…

  • Twittering near Kalari

There is something very special about birds. Some of them so tiny, yet how they live beautiful lives! Singing glories, always singing glories. Always with the vast sky and the rest of the Nature. Wordsworth asks the Cuckoo, “Are you a bird or a wandering voice?” Near Kalari: There is a kind of tiny bird which twitters in a voice with such high frequency that it can wake people from sleep. It is half the size of our palm. I am sure we all know it. Though they are heard in the trees around Amma’s room everyday, for the past…

  • Nothing happened…?

That morning I was late by more than half an hour to go to unlock and open the terrace door of the E Building. Many things could have happened: I would have come across many frowning faces, or would have heard sneering words…. But none of them happened. They didn’t seem to mind the delay. When I came down after more than the normal time, spending time with my favourites- sky, clouds and kites, my workmate downstairs concernedly asked, “How was it? Anything happened?” Meaning, ‘Anybody shouted at you?’ ‘No. Nothing happened.’ I said but soon I corrected my words…

  • the process of unlearning on durgashtami

7 Oct 2008, Amritapuri amma left for the europe yatra. today is durga-ashtami. today is the day we keep books and implements at the feet of devi. and then no study for about 1.5 days. it was one of the most happiest days of my school life. according to the tradition, the practice is that when you keep the books for the puja, you are not supposed to study anything. the day after tomorrow morning is the ceremony of vidyarambham- the beginning of learning – aksharabhyas. you are initiated in to ‘akshram’. akshram has two meanings – the world of…

  • The Golden Spectacles

It is astounding how Amma comes down to the level of the person with Her and works to uplift him/her. When you are sitting by Her side when She is giving darshan you see so many instances of Her astounding examples of Her love and understanding. Two days ago a family came to Amma. There was an ancient lady with white hair. A man of around 40 years and his sad, distraught wife & child. As the story unravelled we understood that the man was suffering from some ailment and so was unable to work and look after his family.…

  • Devi’s Parrot

Some days back I posted Q85 on the blog: “What is your favorite bird?…” Of course when I put a question, I myself enjoy too, thinking of what my answer would be. Regarding the favorite bird, I was wavering between the swan and the peacock. I noticed though that many of the answers mentioned the parrot, saying that it was related to Devi. This touched me, especially that often devotees bring parrots to Amma. She keeps them on Her sari while giving darshan, interacting with them from time to time… (You must have seen this on Amma videos) Two days…

  • Sugar coated medicine

Amma told these words when i went to sit near her last week… it’s nice to contemplate on these thought provoking words so posting it here for all devotees… Amma was telling about the olden days when she and swamis had a tough time getting good water from this same area. She told it was very tough since most of the times the tap in the current ashram area will not be working and swamis had to go the main land to fetch the water. The people in the main land usually didn’t like this as there will already be a long…
