Smile Always?
We see many people come to Amma, not knowing anything about Her, but when they meet Her you see the smile blossom on their face – and you know that a bond has been established. Many reporters from different newspapers came to interview Amma in Hyderabad. One particular incident to share — Amma had agreed to give an interview to a reporter from the leading local newspaper ‘Eenadu’. We had our ashram people there to translate for him as he was more fluent in his mother tongue Telugu, but he had brought a recorder along with him all the same.…

Lunch and Tea
We crossed Andhra Pradesh, then Karnataka and entered Maharashtra. Even though Karnataka is a big state, a small portion of Northern Karnataka intersects the national highway NH9. Amma stopped for lunch in a village in Maharashtra. The vehicle pulled over to a random spot. It was the second time Amma was stopping at the same spot. Can u believe it? Yes, it was the same house. The members of the house could of course remember Amma’s previous visit. While Amma waited for the buses to come, she started reading a bunch of letters and responding to them. It was about…

Showering Petals
During Amma’s visit to Hyderabad in February 2006, I had the unique blessing of performing Arati to Amma along with other devotes. Generally Amma showers petals on all the devotees who perform Arati. I was the third person in the queue to perform Arati. By the time my turn came there were few petals already on Amma’s lap. The petals would have been fallen on Amma’s lap when she was showering them on other devotees during arati. A thought occurred in my mind. I wished that it would be so nice if Amma showers the petals on me from her…

From the hill top
The Hyderabad Brahmasthanam is situated on top of a hill. It’s a beautiful temple. From there you see the city of Secunderabad (Hyderabad and Secunderabad are twin cities). You can also see the runway of the Secunderabad airport. As you stand by the temple, many a times you will feel that you can talk to the passengers or wave your hands to them because the plane flies so low. Actually from the temple you can see the runway. Amma’s room is near the Brahmasthanam temple. There is an Amrita Vidyalayam and Computer Institute in the ashram complex. The weather was…

Japanese Views
A group of Japanese students came to do service, to help the tsunami housing rehabilitation project in Nagapattinam. These University students on their way to Nagapattianm, stopped in Mysore, had Amma’s darshan and participated in the Holi celebration with her. Many were seeing Amma for the first time. Here are their comments… At first, I thought Amma is like God. But now I feel like Amma is my mother, the mother of all. Her hug was so charming. It filled my heart with kindness and love. I wish that her love would extend to all of India and the whole…

Making Tea
After her programmes in Bangalore Amma visited the Amrita University Campus in Bangalore. In fact during darshan in the Brahmasthanam Festival, the students of this campus were insisting to Amma that she should come to the campus. When she arrived there, they welcomed Amma and shared their hearts with her. They told her that they were so happy to see Amma in their campus and wanted Amma to come every year. Amma left Bangalore city around 10:30 in the morning. In the evening Amma stopped by the river Tungabadra. It is one of the main rivers of Andra Pradesh, but…

Call like her
Amma celebrated Holi with the devotees of Mysore at the end of the final evening programme. Everyone danced and sang in ecstasy when Amma was dancing. In keeping with the tradition, Amma threw coloured powder on the devotees, smeared paints on the faces, squirted coloured water with water guns…. Oh! What a Holi it was! I’m sure it was something that Mysorians won’t forget for years. Amma visited the hospital before leaving the city. When Amma reached Bangalore, there were hundreds of devotees waiting for Amma. As Amma stepped from her vehicle, everyone cried out, “Amma! Amma!” Many were in…

The Guru Will Come
A man came to see Amma today and asked her for a mantra. Amma agreed to give it to him. He was meeting Amma for the first time; how lucky he is. After Amma gave him the mantra she held him close to her heart one more time. There is an interesting story about this elderly farmer from a remote village of Karwar District in Northern Karnataka. This man had a dream a week ago in which he saw a woman in a white sari. At the time, he didn’t recognize her; he had never seen her before. He became…
