Amritapuri ashram
  • the day that was

watching ’embracing the world’ video triggered some memories in me. it was sometime in 1998 and i had been a part of amma’s free housing project – amrita kuteeram. amma had organized a team of volunteers which was to build 25 thousand free houses for the poor. as a forerunner, we visited every applicant’s address and our task was to filter out ineligible ones. the selected applicant or families were sorted out again according to the urgency of the need and that task was to prioritize constructions for the first year, second year, consecutive year and so on. amongst one…

  • Incredible Kali Ma

20 Jun 2010 Albequerque, USA Yatra A hole was blown in the fabric of the Universe at the end of the first day in Albuquerque. It wasn’t a bolt of lightning. It wasn’t fireworks. It was the collective final “Jai!!!!” that erupted from the hall at the end of darshan on the first day of programs in ABQ. Yes, Amma sang. And, yes, it was incredible…..again. One could witness a million times…. and one can write about it in a million different ways….. As darshan was finishing around 9:30pm, anticipation was already in the air. There seemed to be a…

  • Wonderful evening with Amma

LA Retreat 2nd Day Darshan ended around 2pm in the afternoon which gave ample time to rest before the evening Q&A session. Amma came down at around 6:30pm to one of the courtyards in the hotel and sat on a petham with a beautifully decorated backdrop. After meditation, hands went up in the air signaling a desire to ask a question. In all, three questions were answered by Amma, each response filled her infinitude wisdom, and, of course, embellished with lots of humor and fun. One devotee, who is known for his tattoo filed face, was one of the questioners.…

  • Vibrato

Louder and hoarse I call you, all in your thousands of names. However, I hear you snore! nothing else but rub and scrub. My fumed throat gets soared. Sound cracks under my tongue. I seek a word to wake you up. Wonder would you ever hear? I know not the right diction. Words feeble are illegible. My lips dry by constant chant. But, you never answered once. One day I filled my soul full; words, poured my heart out in pain. Called you all through breathe, sleepless until daybreak. Then I heard a feeble hum, sounding right from my core.…

  • Sad or should not be sad?

Jun 16, 2010, Los Angeles Yesterday was the first day of programs in LA. There was no evening program. Darshan started at 11am and went until 9:30pm Around 8:30 in the evening, i was feeling weak and tired. I had been fighting the flu for a few days and was still recovering from Devi Bhava in San Ramon and the 5 hour drive to LA. I desperately needed to go to bed. I expected that darshan would last for another hour – during which time Archana would most likely be chanted as is done at each program. There was a…
