    Japanese students play Holi

After demolishing a derelict school building in just two days, the IVUSA student volunteers from Japan took a welcome break to play Holi. The village of Batwadi where we have built most of our “Amma Houses”hosted a wonderful party with bhajans, a dance by the children, followed by many kilos of color. It was an experience the students will never forget. -Scotti

    generations of love

amma’s kozhikode program is always special. usually, amma gives annaprasham (first feeding) and does vidyarambham (initiation into writing and the alphabet) at the end of the program. this time, two children that came for the ceremony were very interesting. one baby, amardeep, was brought to receive his first solid food from amma. it was a poignant moment, as his mother was given her first food from amma as a baby herself—23 years ago. a second child, sanvika, who was brought for initiation into writing. her mother, who brought her to amma, was herself initiated into writing by amma…also 23 years…

  • Laughter Yoga

I recently joined a Laughter Yoga (Hasya Yoga) Therapy course at Amritapuri. Though I was vaguely aware of the feel-good effects of laughter, I had never thought to seek out more opportunities for laughter in my life. Well into my first class, I realized there would be much less downward facing dog poses and handstands than I had anticipated. It was more of a holistic mind-body experience. Amma says, “80% of all illness is stress-related. Seriousness is a disease, and we should try to leave it and allow ourselves to laugh more. Laughter is good for our hearts. Laughter is…

Ma! Thy Effulgent Form is Infinite Beauty Personified, Th’ Divine Lotus whose fragrance felt by Yogis, Omnipresent, Yogis humming, “Om Om Om” know it to be th’ most blessed, May I be the blessed Yogi Swan at Thy Holiest Lotus Feet. Ma, the lotus bloomed in the lake named Manasorvar, Permeated its fragrance enticing the Swans around. An’ the bees came to relish its honey from far and far, Alas! Its life-span is short, its dependency is burdened. Ma, the lotus dependent on life giving Sun’s light, Has no charm on its own, nay its existence evanescent, An’ th’ lives…

  • A Temple of Gratitude

As she smiles the Sun, Moon and stars fade. The Universe bows down at her lotus feet. Entire galaxies revolve around her love. The five elements of world create a canopy. The air around her gets purified. The sweet fragrance of love streams of her heart. The water she touches turns into the Holy Ganges. She sprinkles her grace on all around her. By a soft feel of her fingers she fertilizes soil. Hopes and love sprout in the heart of Earth. By soft subtle words she soothes minds. Oh mother of all, let me pray that I be an…

    Medical camp at Kudara

Kudara village is located at the foot hills of Harmukh mountain in Kashmir. Harmukh is the 2nd highest mountain peak in kashmir region. Kudara has population of nearly 5000. This village remains cut off during winters due to heavy snow. Most of the villagers are nomads and keep migrating. We conducted our next medical camp and were able to cater the needs of almost 400 patients. The local people were quite hospitable. They were so happy because for the first time after the kashmir floods last year, some medical camp was being organized. Our doctor team was given a warm…

  • His baby heart was calling

Yesterday evening, as Amma was leaving the stage, I was there waiting for her passage with others and was so happy when she touched our outstretched hands. When she reached the steps leading to her room, Soham, the one year old little blond devotee was waiting for her, carried by his mom Sudha. Amma stood in front of him smiling. He went wild – for Amma! He was reaching and reaching for her. Amma stood watching and smiling. Only after a few moments, did Amma take him in Her arms… Amma said he was calling her. Baby Soham doesn’t speak…

    Medical camps in Kashmir valley

Local doctors from Kashmir are still helping us with conducting medical camps in the Kashmir valley. On 9th February, a camp was organized in the village Kunzpora. The team was surprised to find that this was the first medical camp here post devastating floods last year. The team was able to cater to around 500 patients, including children. They were provided with high quality health supplements, Antibiotics, Pain killers, Multi-vitamins etc. As I spoke to the team few minutes back, they shared their experiences and how blessed they felt doing this selfless service to humanity. Dr Yavar (one of the…
