  • Looking into her eyes

When Amma came to my hometown in the U.S., I didn’t know what darshan was or what it meant. A friend told me, “Amma is a saint! It is a huge blessing to be in her presence.” I got a token, I got a hug, and afterwards I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. Was I supposed feel more? Other people seemed to. I asked my friend, Grace, about her experience. “Oh, it’s when I look into her eyes!” she said. “It’s like looking into the depths of the universe!” “I couldn’t meet her eyes!” I exclaimed. Suddenly I…

  • Translation Error

It was one of Amma’s public programs in Mumbai, I was fortunate enough to do ‘Line seva’. I liked that seva because it brought legitimacy for me being nearer Amma and also gave the opportunity to do some thing little useful. I was asking the question to the throngs of people who came to see Amma, what language they spoke. I asked this question in multiple languages. It was around mid-night and I was feeling a little proud of my multi-lingual skills. One old lady came walking slowly and told Amma something in kannada. Amma asked if somebody could translate…

  • Sanctifiying by touch, by hug

A family back home from Amritapuri found a child asking another about Amma. Okay tell me what is Amma doing? The one who had just returned from Amritapuri said without a pause Amma is sanctifying everybody.  Obviously the child had seen Amma giving darshan for long hours… Whenever he was not sleeping he had seen Amma giving darshan, sanctifiying humans by touch, by hug. The father who overheard this reply was surprised. Well, its very true, Amma has been giving darshan for non stop 14 hours, 16 hours everyday! But how could my child articulate it so well. He told…

During my first visiting to the Ashram, there were nothing except a small thatched shed with a small gathering of people singing beautiful Bhajans along with Amma. i was greatly touched by  the beauty of that prayers which I have never seen before. Amma hugged me and kissed me on my cheeks, and murmured , “Ponnu Mone, Kutta”…

  • Belonging to Amma

2 Jan 09 It was a blissful way to start a new year- with a feeling of belongingness to the Divine Mother. It was a small, intimate moment with Amma during my darshan on New Year’s Eve that made me feel very special. The moment was so wonderful because even though I have had so many similar moments with Amma, every new time is a unique experience in itself. I was in front of Amma on 31st December, and she drew me into her arms and held me so tight that I could feel her elbows on my back while…

  • Amma miracle: Transforming ordinary to extra-ordinary

Sometimes, it is really amazing on how Amma can transform people half-way across the globe. Last summer, as part of a delegation of scientists from India, i visited Brazil for an international conference and witnessed the power of Amma’s transformation beyond geographical and language barriers. It was the evening before the conference, and we the delegates went for dinner. As we were all extremely hungry after long travel, we ordered a full plate each, but after 2 full hours of eating, could only consume about a quarter of the food in our plate, leaving the rest behind, fairly intact and…

  • first darshan

I first saw Amma on a CBS special: In God’s Name. I was immediately attracted to her presence. Then I saw a PBS special called: Darshan. I wrote this little poem about my experience of watching her on TV: to see a glimpse to experience a welcoming hug to feel accepted and loved this is darshan this is God – Kathy Dowell Cartersville, GA, USA

  • Dream Darshan

I grew up with Catholic education in the village of Ciampino, located 20 km south of Rome, and throughout childhood and adolescence I fervently attended the activities of my parish. Today I moved away from all that and my family still is not aware of what has happened to me and cannot imagine what Amma means to me. And that this inner connection with the Mother has never, not even minimally affected my faith in God and in Jesus. On the contrary, it is reinforced every day. But how to explain to my family, who think I have been brainwashed?…

  • Fragrance Mystery

This year my wife and I were unable to see Amma. My mother-in-law died on the week we had planned to go see Amma in Germany. Instead of going to see Amma, my wife and I were both at the mother’s bedside when she gave her last breath. We had never seen anyone die before… the experience took 3½ days. After observing her last breath and departure from the body we dedicated a puja to her. Our hope was that the death would carry her towards a peaceful reincarnation, as this life was not very happy for her. I had…
