Thoughts on the Women s Day
As I sit in my office today, I am wondering about the hype Woman’s day is creating in Delhi. Radio Shows, Sales etc are all eagerly awaiting March 8 to acknowledge the role of Women in today’s society.
Suddenly my thoughts take me to Amma’s picture beaming on the wall and I knew I want to write something about the strongest yet softest woman I have ever come across and probably ever will.
She keeps giving us a part of herself everyday, a fact that all of us are truly thankful about.
The scar on her right cheek is a constant reminder of how much Amma is sacrificing for us. It is such a humbling experience to see Amma ask her children amidst darshans whether they have had food? My heart goes out asking Amma why does she care so much for us? While giving darshans the extra effort she takes to turn around to acknowledge the artists who have been performing for her is so lovable. Though we are doing nothing much while Amma is giving darshans, it is Amma who reminds us to clap for them at the end of each performance. How much she cares for the kids who are conquering their stage fright to welcome her! Even after finishing a programme followed by an equally strenuous 4-5 hour journey , she cant wait to give a bit of herself to her children who have been waiting for her, at the next spot. Her twinkling eyes betray nothing of what exertion her body is going through. She not only gives darshan but also guides what and how the Ashram should work.
I wonder how she manages to do so much in just 24 hours?
She is the epitome of everything which is divine! Amma thank you so much for coming into our lives and staying in our hearts. It is such a reassuring feeling that God is a woman. I am so glad that God decided to take form of Amma and give to world, love, hugs, kisses and more kisses which the world was bereft of when He came down as Sri Rama and Sri Krishna. I am so glad to have been born in Kali Yuga, though it is considered to be the most sinful of the 4 yugas, the humankind has witnessed. Glad, because God decided to assume the form of Mother and nourish our parched souls and broken hearts.
Though we are in the 21 century, the human society is still plagued by the scourge of ill treating women. Women are essentially targeted every time the society tries to reassert itself. I wonder how it would have been for Amma to grow up against this backdrop, 40 years ago, when mid sets were still narrower. Whenever I read Amma’s biography I feel so blessed that Amma chose to fight out the odds and be with us.

Very true.. No matter what we do, we can never repay Dearest AMMA.
Oh my God Amma has asked me too during darshan whether I had had food, and I had to read your article for it to be impressed upon me that I hadn’t asked Her back the same question.
Very true – and very well written piece. to sum up all that AMMA is and does is a daunting task and you have expressed the same so beautifully.
Very Much True, She is “Jaganmaata” She is “Kaalaathitha”, if not how She can give Darshan continuously for these long hours-on all 365 days-for these many years. We can pray…..”Kaathidukamme Yi Komalavigraham, Karunyapoorvami Makkalkkai..”
