whose house?

6 feb 2008, amritapuri
she came through the window. i was wondering why she is coming to the brahmacharis quarters. how dare she? she had few strands of fibre in her hand. she looked at me and smiled- a kind of an awkard smile. her eyes looked like asking me permission ‘can i come in?’. but she did not wait for any answer. jumped on to the cupboard and then to the shelf and disappeared behind the stuff that was there. aha! there she is making her home. oh ho… is she going to deliver babies and bring them up in my room? yes, it seems like.
i just paused my thought. relflected. my room? really? one of amma’s teachings flashed through my mind. ‘even the ants living in house will say its their house, the crow and the pigeon sitting on the roof will also say that its their house. really who’s house is it? ignorant man claims it’s his”.
i smiled at the squirrel and sang these lines.

‘kuch na le aya to, kuch na le jayega
nam hari ha jap le sangh vahi aayega’

(you didnt bring any thing with you when you came, you wont take any thing with you when you go;
chant the name of the lord, that alone will accompany you.)

  1. Very true swamiji,

  2. Yes you are absolutely right. We all are engrossed in race of overcoming each and everyone. But do we realize what for. The world which we are seeing is a drama and we are a part enacting our role. When we came to this world we were all alone, when we go we would be all alone, the persons attached to us are the characters the director(GOD) has sent them to enact with us. Yes his name will only go with us. If we have his gracethan our human birth is worth and if we forget HIM and join the rat race we destroy our oppurtunity to get to him.

    When all are one whether it is plant, animal, humanbeing, non-living thing created by him, we are his own parts and we live with the GOD so according to me the world is house of GOD and we are occupying it with him.

  3. This is an ode to the constant level of consciousness in the Brahmachari’s quarters. Such a blessing to anyone present, is the lesson living there amongst them.
    Not a one there would even think to swat a mosquito or a fly. No, no for it may be there blessed Guru in disguise testing them.
    Ah, I am humbled again by my brothers.

  4. Wow.

  5. I love that song! Now I know what it means. Though the translations are there I don’t often look at them. I just close my eyes and let the vibrations wash me clean. I now have a very cute image of a squirrel making a nest brahmacharis quarters..and being sung to :-)~Aum Amriteshwaryai Namaha~
