Amritapuri ashram
  • Starting the rehabilitation work in UK

On 29 Dec I have left the relative comfort of Rishikesh to document the relief work of Mata Amritananda Math in the Kedar Valley of the Himalayas. The area was devastated by flooding in June of 2013 (All News). Amma immediately sent a medical van from Kerala and now is beginning construction of 500 houses in the region plus other long term support for education and vocational training. The hills here are not solid rock and in a good year, parts will slide from the hillsides into the river below. This year, the damage was massive. As we turned north…

  • Devi who loves the Names

2 Jan 2014, Amritapuri Devi, the form of the Divine Mother is glorified in Hindu scriptures by various names attributing the formless and nameless Self in its compassionate form as the Mother. Yesterday was one such day of beautiful reminders. Amma had been giving Darshan for more than 10 hours. Hall was crowded. As someone got up, the more people tried to squeeze into that space near Amma. Soon it was the end of Darshan. Swami had come to take a place next to Amma to help lead the pada puja conducted by some devotees. After half hour or so,…

  • Fulfiller of wishes

Yesterday was truly a wonderful day for many near Amma. Amma seemed ever fresh even at 10 pm after almost 12 hours of Darshan. I was sitting in the hall beside her. Amma was jokingly chatting on with a small kid who sat beside her after receiving Darshan. Amma asked him if he knew bhajans and what else. The kid chatted loudly with Amma. With little brother and they were singing simple lines in broken Tamil with Amma. Amma was also talking back to them asking them to sing a few joy-focusing bhajans. Taking things to another extreme, from afar,…

  • Love inspires, connects hearts in Milan

Last weekend, i came to witness an expression of Amma, albeit in action. Amma says “To be able to see our own Self in every living thing with both our eyes open – that is Self-realization. We must see ourselves in others, and love and serve them. That is when spiritual practice achieves perfection.” After the Europe tour with Amma, i had stayed back in Italy to do some University collaboration work. Sukhrita, the coordinator of Milan Satsang group invited me to witness a very interesting Saturday. She had picked me up and then explained that unlike all Saturdays where…

  • Geetha Jayanthi

When a Jeevatma called “Arjuna,” Was tormented by th’ laws of Karma, Shaken to dust, wrecked an’ broken by strife, By th’ most formidable currents of life. Utterly dejected, hence he knew not He could still be invincible an’ float, Facing th’ existential foes, money, power an’ lust, In the ocean of Samsara, so unbearable, an’ difficult. Later, he built the fort of faith empowered, By the strength of his surrender to the Lord, Inquired about births, deaths and reincarnations, The travelings of souls in different bodily forms. Adhering to the Truth, and Virtue, He made, God His slave yet…

  • Supreme Consciousness Arrives at Amritapuri

2 Dec 2013, Amritapuri Archana was chanted an hour early at 4am.  By shortly after 5am the whole ashram was lined up from the gate to Amma’s room for her expected arrival at 6-6:30am.  Even people who will not normally spend 2 minutes in a Q without complaining or cutting it, patiently waited, even chanting their mantra peacefully! We began to get updates.  Mobiles have some advantages.  She’s left airport.  She’s at Attingal.  She passed Parippally (did not stop).  She is at Kollam. Now she is at Karunagappally!!!!! She’s on the beach road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Everyone is smiling. Hands folded in prayer…

  • Back at Amritapuri

Back at Amritapuri, the Europe tour now becomes a beautiful memory and not a day to day adventure. Other lucky people are still on tour with Amma in the USA. However, it is also lucky to be at Amma’s ashram where there is construction everywhere for new housing. Looks like a lot more people are coming to Amritapuri to visit and live, both short and long term! And everywhere there is cleaning, paint and refurbishing to greet Amma and the hoards of people that are already beginning to arrive for the holiday season. There is fresh light sand covering the…

  • Floating

I was dormant in a shell, like a hermit in penance . Many seasons passed by, placing year rings on me. Unaware I delved deeper, to find an end to beginning. and beginning to an end. I felt my body crumbled. My breathe chocked heavily. My sinews stretched full, as my body was burning. My thoughts in flame, I was turning into ashes. I emptied my burden of mind. Suddenly I was awakened, rubbing my eyes I found my dreams fall one by one. Now I am weightless, floating on the wings of grace. I flutter my wings and float.…
