Tears of Devotion

Tonight Amma sang the following bhajans:

Mridula Neela Kalebara
Amma Nin Rupam
Rote Jag Men
Vilical Vili Kelkan
Janani Tava Padam
Om Namah Shivaya
Om Hari Om Hari
Jinki Karuna Hai Apar

The song Janani Tava Padam (lyrics below) was simply fantastic tonight. Amma sang with such force and feeling that I noticed that even the little boy sitting next to me had the hair on his skin standing on end. It is not rare that I have noticed a few tear drops falling from one of the children’s eyes during bhajans. Have you ever noticed that tear drops of devotion fall from the outer corner of the eye?

O Mother, at your lotus feet your children offer salutations, kindly look after these ignorant children.

Ignorant as I am, I may do a lot of forbidden acts.
Please forgive me, showering your mercy and grace now.

O Mother, graciously grant me pure devotion, which alone I seek.
I do not want any merits or demerits. It is devotion alone that I seek.

Ignorance I do not seek, wisdom I do not seek.
I am unconcerned about purity and impurity. It is devotion alone that I seek.

Neither righteousness nor unrighteousness I seek.
I neither want a spouse nor wealth. It is devotion alone that I seek.
