Amalabharatam – an initiative by Matha Amritanandamayi Math for a clean Nation has began its preliminary works to clean up the entire state of Kerala. Meetings of devotees from various districts were held under the president ship of Swami Jnanamritananda Puri at three different centers on October 9th, 10th and 15th.

Addressing the gathering Swami emphasized the physical as well as spiritual benefits of the project. He directed the devotees to look upon this project in the light of the Upanishad mantra ‘Isavasyamidam Sarvam’,the whole creation is none other than God and to rededicate themselves in that spirit for the Nation. Even otherwise, from physical perspective general cleanliness is indispensable for a healthy living, and each one should work hard for such a good cause, Swami added.

In the meeting held at Trissur on October 9th, representatives from four northern districts participated. It was decided that initially 131 waste bins will be kept along the sides of National Highways passing through Trissure, Palakkad, Ernakulam and Malappuram districts.

In the meeting held at Amritapuri on Oct.10th, representatives from five southern districts participated. It was decided that initially 60 waste bins will be kept along NH-47 and in Kollam district the location where waste bins can be stationed will be reckoned before 20th of this month. In Alappuzha and Kottayam, in the first phase 37 waste bins will be kept.

The meeting conducted at Thalassery on Oct.15th was attended by representatives from Kozhikkod, Kannur, Wynad and Kasaragod districts. Initially 70 waste bins will be kept in this zone. It was also decided to take effective measures to create awareness among the public about general cleanliness, planting saplings and also to avoid use of plastic.
