Analysis on Q2 to Q5

To put the answers provided for the questions posted earlier on the blog into a better use for everyone, we have started making ‘analytic summaries’ of the answers provided for each of the previous questions.

Here are summary/analysis of answers provided for Q2 to Q5.

Q2 was: “What is the first thing that you think of when you wake up in the morning?”
63 answers were posted and here is what they said:
– 25 answers say that the first thought is about Amma, whether it is a prayer, looking at Amma’s picture or feeling her presence.
– 17 answers mention looking at the alarm, checking how much more time they could sleep, many wanting to sleep more…
– 9 mention practical matters like having to get up, thinking of things to do on that day, going to toilet or shower.
– 5 talk about feelings of thankfulness for the new day.
– 4 mention things related to their family members.
And finally one says that the first thought is wondering what Amma is doing at that moment, and another about feeling blessed and secure for waking up at Amritapuri.

Q3 was: “Are there big egos and small egos, or are all egos the same?”
40 answers were posted:
– Most of them believe that all egos are the same. It is a thief that can sleep if circumstances are not favorable, and sneaks in when opportunities arise. All answers seem to agree that the most important matter is that ego is the enemy and that it needs to be uprooted.
– Those that believe that there is a difference of size in ego say that ego gets thinner with spiritual practices, but that the biggest egos are the more subtle and sophisticated ones.

Q4 was: “What is your earliest memory from this life?”
41 responses were posted:
– Every answer of course relates to a personal experience. The earliest memory comes from the age of 3 / 4 as an average.
– 12 answers recall a memory that is tainted with feelings of abandonment, fear or crying.
– 7 answers have happy memories.
– 5 answers have more of the feeling of children’s wonder world.
– 6 answers recall a spiritual memory, linked to rituals.
And 4 answers talk to a real rebirth after meeting Amma.

Q5 was: “If someone could tell you now the exact time of your death, would you be ready to hear it?”
41 responses were posted:
– 17 answers were a clear ‘Yes’. Some say that they would then be a able to focus more on inner matters, others say that they feel Amma would provide the needed support. Interestingly one person says, he/she is Ok knowing of his/her own death, but not of people he/she is attached to.
– 12 were a clear ‘No’. Some say that they would become very nervous, others that they prefer enjoying to live in the present.
– Other answers either clearly state their mixed feelings about the matter, or try to escape answering by giving philosophical theories about life.
